Full Comment brings you a daily collection of international punditry on the issues of the moment. Today: It was the dress seen round the world -- Tuesday night in Chicago, Michelle Obama appeared on stage with her husband, wearing a black and red sheath by American designer Narciso Rodriguez. To an untrained observer, it looked as if someone out trick or treating had thrown a can of red paint at her.
Her choice of frock has polarized the country and beyond. USA Today published a snap poll in which the spread looked like the Barack Obama/John McCain numbers for a safe blue state. More than 10,000 USA Today readers weighed in: 35% said: She looks fantastic as always, 65% said: This fashionista had an off day. Even the China Daily ran a piece (in the entertainment section).

Spider First-Lady, Spider First-Lady, does whatever a Spider First-Lady does...
Spins a web, any size, thinks America attracts flies, Look out! Here comes the Spider First-Lady.
She’s like one of those ANGRY , snotty b*tches I used to come across in Jersey City NJ.
I think that would be "spanx"
LOL!!!!!
More likely the message was that if Americans don't acquiesce to the Totalitarian State, appropriately, WE will be eaten.
She is one spooky looking chic.
She has some really big teeth. I would hate to get bitten by teeth that big..
Read my comment #37!
A dress in honor of her husband’s politics: black and Red.
“I am so going to miss the First Lady, Laura Bush. :(”
Me too, VairyAngel. I’m also going to miss President Bush. I don’t care what folks say, he’s a good man, a great president, and although he wasn’t perfect, we all owe him our respect and a debt of gratitude.
Michelle Obama wearing a dress containing the blood smears of everyone who has so far gotten in their way politically....
She just wanted something that cost a lot of money? Isn’t that all that is important??
The media is going to have some serious water carrying and looking the other way to do in her case. I think old B.O. is going to have a tiger by the tail once she gets revved up as first lady.
The dress was ugly. The first thing my wife said when she saw it (that makes it official).
I guess someone talked her out of wearing the shoes.
What dress? I only see one Ugly woman(?).
Take the mask off, Halloween’s over.
“Mr. Ed in drag”
Snicker snicker.....LOL A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course, that is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed. ;)
Oh my gosh. That one is going to stick.
