Defeated Palin makes triumphant return home; GOP infighting grows
SFGate (home of the San Francisco Chronicle) ^ | Thursday, November 6, 2008; 18:57 PST | Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Gov. Sarah Palin returned home in defeat to Wasilla, Alaska, today - leaving behind eyebrow-raising tales about towel-clad appearances and internal campaign feuds. [...]

Among the stories reported by Fox News and Newsweek magazine:

-- She showed up in front of John McCain campaign aides "wearing nothing but a towel";

-- She sent campaign staff on a shopping spree for her family that insiders described as the "Wasilla hillbillies looting Nieman Marcus from coast-to-coast";

-- She was so shockingly ignorant of basic civics that aides prepping her for her single debate realized she didn't know that Africa is a continent and not a country, nor could she identify the countries that comprise North America. [...]

On election night, the New York Times reported, Palin showed up at McCain's election-night gathering in Phoenix ready to read a concession speech. It goes against campaign protocol for a vice presidential candidate to speak on election night, and the move was vetoed by McCain strategist Steve Schmidt. [...]

"She didn't know the nations involved in the North American Free Trade Agreement," NAFTA - a key agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada," he said GOP insiders told him. She also "didn't understand that Africa was a continent and not a country" and asked for explanation about the difference between South Africa and Africa, he reported. [...]

And the lingering matter of her wardrobe spending continues - a Republican party attorney has been assigned to look into Palin's designer clothing purchases and, reportedly, to retrieve the expensive items. [...]

"An angry aide ... said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books," according to the magazine.

Still, conservative leaders downplayed those reports, insisting that base voters were deeply impressed by Palin and her contributions to the ticket.

Had to excerpt, so you'll have to click for positive side, Gov. Palin denials, and details on the towel, etc.

To me, these things are believable...and demonstrate the culture-clash we're facing. Gov. Palin presented herself as an unintellectual, regular person...and perhaps that's true.

When Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) thinks that Neil Armstrong planted a flag on Mars, the Left doesn't bat an eye, while many on the Right point out how out of touch she is. So the question is, does the President need to have such knowledge?

I think the answer is yes, for both Congressmen and Presidents. I think we want someone who understands "average people," but that doesn't mean we want an average person in office.

So if this is all true, then I admit poor judgment, as I had been pushing for Gov. Palin for VP for a long time. And I think that perhaps she'd do well spending the next few years in prepping for the big time.

As governor, though...she's an Executive, not a Legislator, IMO.

Thanks to the Mac camp and Carl Cameron , the blame for the loss they give to Palin, when in fact, Mac would have lost by a landslide...if she had not been on the ticket.

Who drew the crowds? Who is the biggest threat to the libeal dems? Sarah Palin.

Best not to fall for the Mittbot lies. They've been doing this all year long. Now they are taking their chance to "thin the herd" to prepare for 2012.

I'd suggest we thin the Mittbots from our midst ~ send them away into Outer Darkness (if that sort of thing is allowed).

For your information Wolf Blitzer, the original "hater" actually backed off every single accusation this evening. He had this blond gal on who doubled sourced denials and clearly indicated that the whole business here was baseless gossip by sociopathic political types, possibly even Democrats.

So, get down on your knees and pray for forgiveness.

Until we get names, I for one think that all these “accusations” are bs.

I will always stand by Palin, and any conservative leader. I’ve had enough of the idea of throwing our leaders under the bus for minuscule crap. That’s the way the left wants us to play. The left can go to hell.

Stand by our conservative leaders!

I hope names are being taken of Palin bashers within the party. They should never work a day on another campaign.

“Gov. Sarah Palin returned home in defeat to Wasilla, Alaska”

######

Unequivocally incorrect.

The moderate Democrat was defeated. Compassionate conservatism was defeated. Lukewarm, aisle-crossing, Republican elitism was defeated.

Sarah Palin remains singularly triumphant. She will be yet more triumphant in the future under the mantle of unobscured, true conservatism.

Someone should make a website and book on the topic of “what idiotic democrats think and do.”

Culture clash? We have a bunch of elitist Washington cocktail-party types who think they’re better than everyone else. And we have Mitt Romney trying to position himself for 2012.

These things are nowhere near believable. She didn’t know the NAFTA countries? They own an Alaskan fishing business that was directly affected by NAFTA. Of course she knows.

The bathrobe suddenly turned into a towel. I didn’t care then, don’t care now.

She doesn’t know Africa is a continent? Nonsense.

If you believe this crap, I have some waterfront property to sell you.

this is all a Bama/Alinsky set up!!

Truer words were never spoken! This is a twofer for Obama. Smear Palin and claim Mitt is behind the smears. They can eliminate two threats for 2012 with one stone.

I thought it was a hotel robe. Now it’s a towel?

The tale gets more and more scandalous.

I despise these people.

I've seen enough people who spent time with her, Democrats in fact that it's enough for me to dismiss this gossip.

What bothers me more than any accusation being made is the fact that communication devices were confiscated from a staffer who tried to defend her and then the guy was fired. That is so disturbing.

The real danger here is forming a cult of personality around Palin similar to the one that formed around Obama.
We must be very careful in our choices for these next two elections, we shouldn't be trying to replicate the success of our enemy. We will win in our own way, through rational discourse and pragmatism.
DO NOT INVEST IN PEOPLE, invest in ideas. We will win these next elections because our ideas are better. Which means it's time to dump intellectual lightweights like Sarah Palin, and return this to the party of Bennett and Gingrich.
It's amazing just how plum STUPID candidates are these days. He Who We Will Never Name Again couldn't even decisively beat Obama in the debates.

Gov. Palin presented herself as an unintellectual, regular person...and perhaps that's true.

Regular person, yes. Unintellectual, horse-hockey. She's intellectual. She's not an elitist snob which is what the elitist party snobs want her to be. And she can run circles around most of them in terms of common sense and knowledge about things that actually matter to most people.

The airheads in washington that spent an excessive number of years in our colleges haven't a clue about life in the real world. If time spent in the indoctrination center known as college is their measure of intellectualism, then an intellectual is an idiot.
