The View's conservative cutie Elisabeth Hasselbeck stunned viewers today by throwing her support behind president-elect Barack Obama. Executive Producer Barbara Walters asked Hasselbeck, who campaigned with John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin, how she felt after seeing McCain/Palin go down to defeat on election night. Hasselbeck said her daughter Grace, 3, had asked her who won and who lost the election. "No one lost," Hasselbeck said she told her child. "Seriously, today is a victory for this country." Hasselbeck said the massive voter turnout and the excitement of the presidential contest inspired her. "I will get in a long line of supporters
for this president," she said.

He will be our President. Let’s not act like the liberals did toward Bush. Politics should stop at the water’s edge. But, when he’s wrong, we have an obligation to oppose him. We have an obligation to work for a more conservative congress in two years. We have an obligation to try to defeat Obama in four years. But, beginning on inauguration day, he will be the President of the United States of America. Let’s not hate him.
Where I disagree with her is in calling this a victory for our nation. I see it as a defeat and as a repudiation of many of our Founding Fathers and their principles. I will always respect the office and the right of Americans to be stupid (something so many are good at) but I see nothing at all to be happy about. On the other hand, she is such a babe that I will agree with anything see says :)
Probably not this year, but definitely next year!
Getting a black marxist as president, causes me to wonder whether slavery doomed our nation from the beginning. Slavery and all the wrongs against blacks were an abominable evil, but is the price we must pay, the loss of Freedom for everyone?
I agree, but there are those who will fall to the levels of those we have despised for the past 8 years.
Hasselbeck shows more class and integrity than all those beasts put together.
I’m sure she’s tired from defending Republicans and maybe just wasn’t in it to fight today.
Plus, someone needs to make the money in that household. Lord knows her shitty football player husband ain’t bringing it in.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
She is getting on the bandwagon with Dennis Prager, Bill O’Reilly, et al. Didn’t take long... they are enchanted.
Most of our talk radio people will go over to Obama except for Rush, and.... who else?
Agreed. This is the process. We can be unhappy with the outcome but now is the time for us to show people how the minority party SHOULD behave. And while we are being civil, we should be working as hard as we can behind the scenes to restore the GOP party to Reagan days...
I had a conversation with my 9 year old yesterday and assured him that we will be ok. There are checks and balances in America and we are about to see them in play.
I appreciate the fact that Elizabeth responded in the way she did because quite frankly it made the rest of the hosts on that show look petty...
When I was a kid, it didn’t matter who was president, kids were in awe of him and learned about patriotism by respecting the office. No teacher ever thought to inject their personal politics, and I could not tell you who they supported in elections (I’m talking grade school, here). I think that many of us raised after WWII were instilled with basic love and respect of country. I’m glad that my home wasn’t filled with vitriolic hate for any president, though my parents disagreed with the politics of a few.
We need to be vigilant, hold Obama’s feet to the fire, and lay the groudwork for ‘12. But stooping to DUmmie tactics is nonproductive and unhealthy, and I’m not giving Obama that much power over my life.
*Never forget that Adolph Hitler was elected by the voters.*
I’d never forget it if it were true, but it isn’t.
Hitler ran for President of Germany but was defeated by Hindenburg. He never sat for election into the Reichstag. He was appointed Chancellor by Hindenburg. He never won an election. His party never won a majority of the seats in the Reichstag either.
Seriously, it was stupid when people alluded to this speaking about Bush and it’s stupid now. Give it a rest. At least get the facts straight if you’re going to Godwin your own argument.
Very disappointing.
Right on brother, don’t be a DUmmie
No one lost, but there will be at least 5 million losers in the next four years with President Obomba. And these will be the unborn children who will lose their lives, with Obomba's blessings for their murderers.
I agree. Except I don’t know if I support the right of people to be stupid.
What the HELL. I’m sick to death of this. I think I need a break. Elizabeth is correct. He’s OUR president...Like it, DONT? Either way, he’s our president and the libs and the media greatly weakened our country by minimizing our leader. I CANNOT abide by trashing this guy (Who I NEVER could have voted for)I will work hard against him in 2012, I will work hard for a conservative congress in 2010, I will pray that he has the guidance of God in his decisions but I will NEVER be a part of weakening the office of the Presidency. How, do tell, is it wrong when the libs do it but not when we do. There’s a lot of growing up that needs to be done around here.
I have several liberal friends who have called me since election night , asking me if I will now get behind our new President Obama and support him. I have the same reply for all of them. Sure ,,,I will show President Obama the same ‘’respect’’ and ‘’support’’ you guys did with my President...................Needless to say I get hung up on a lot these days! lol
He won’t be my president - I’m British lol.
We know his agenda - and most of us despise it.
I have nothing personal against him - but I find his politics abhorant.
I think actually you touch on a great point. We can offer support in many different ways. Like it or not this man is my president. Support doesn’t always come in the form of flattery or ignoring things you don’t agree with. I think offering him an alternative is a great way to support him.
You've hit it on the head. The question is, WHY are the Republicans so weak?
I can completely understand why Hasselback tried to show a positive face when questioned by her daughter.
I have an eight year old and an eleven year old. And they knew we strongly supported McCain in this household. In fact, the children even participated in a mock election in their schools. They both voted for McCain.
In the days leading up to the election my children heard my husband and I speaking dejectedly about an Obama presidency, what it means to our future as a family, how it will effect us daily, what this means to our country, our childrens’ future and much more.
A great deal of this talk was negative in nature. And the more the children heard it, the more concerned they became.
In fact, my eight year old believed that the day after the election if Obama won, America would be doomed. She had heard me say this and she kind of envisioned a nuclear-war type aftermath for the nation.
On the day after the election I really put on a good face for my kids. They were already very concerned about the outcome. I’ve not lied to them, but I do not indulge in negativity around them anymore.
Simply put, I don’t want them to think that America is finished. And I told them both that they are the future of America, they will be faithful and honest stewards of the American way.
As their mother I would only be harming them if I did nothing less.
