I had never contributed money to a Republican presidential campaign until this year. It was because of the Sarah Palin pick that I sent the McCain campaign two donations.
McCain, on his own, would draw half the crowd that Palin, on her own, could draw. I have never seen the base as jazzed up as it was after the Palin pick.
The McCain campaign misused her and, demonstrating the level of incompetence we have all come to expect from “moderate” Republicans, squandered their best asset. They threw her into the clutches of an enemy media bent only on discrediting her in any way possible while ignoring for weeks on end the friendlier venues on talk radio and at local TV and radio sites. The handlers and advisers assigned to her were, according to what I read, people who had worked in the Bush White House. Which means they were (and are) incompetent dolts who, with the single exception of the late Tony Snow, never once demonstrated any ability to communicate effectively or to mount an effective press campaign on behalf of their boss. In the hands of such people any person of reasonable intelligence would rightly be suspicious and rightly rebel once their stupidity had once again been displayed.

That needs to be repeated over and over. McCain lost this all by himself with the help of the media. Nice that they have this good woman to blame all the loss on. Talk about a GOP sacrificial lamb. Sarah was the ONLY reason half of us voted for McCain.
