"New era" for U.N. after Obama win
Reuters ^ | 5 Nov 2008 | Patrick Worsnip

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon said on Wednesday he looked for "a new era of partnership" with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama....

"I am confident, today, about future relations between the United Nations and the United States," the U.N. secretary-general said. "With a glad heart, I welcome this new era of partnership for change."

"I expect that the United States will take a more active participation in all United Nations organizations and activities," ....

Suggesting Obama shared U.N. goals, Ban on Wednesday quoted the president-elect as saying he wanted to build "bridges of cooperation" with the world body and that no country had a bigger stake than the United States in a strong United Nations.

Ban said he had asked for a telephone call with Obama to congratulate him and discuss global challenges including climate change, the financial and food crises, human rights and regional conflicts. He also wanted to meet Obama and his transition team as soon as possible.

The U.N. chief highlighted Obama's support for dialogue with foreign nations to resolve conflicts -- comments that brought Obama flak from critics who said he should not sit down with leaders of countries such as Iran or Cuba.

Ban said he hoped Obama would "engage various leaders of the world and also parties (to) the conflicts and problems."

Ban recalled that he had met Obama by chance on an air shuttle from Washington to New York in February 2007 and they had talked for more than half an hour.

"He asked many questions about what the United Nations' major goals are, issues on nonproliferation, like the North Korean and Iranian nuclear issues, and U.N. reforms. He was very engaged and he knew a lot about the United Nations, and I was very much encouraged," ....

I’m sure the first thing Obama will do is allow our soldiers to be subject to that International Criminal Court nonsense the UN is pushing.

The Muslim leaders are pressing the UN to declare criticism of Islam to be an international hate crime. Obama is right there with them in the general UN world-view.

Barack Obama attended an Islamic school growing up in Indonesia and his father was a Muslim.

Obama's experience within Islam as a boy should give him a unique perspective into Islam unlike any other U.S. President.

How do you feel the election of Barack Obama will impact Islam in America?

You’re right, in Britain (and I believe in the European Union as a whole) it’s a hate crime already if you say something less than glorious about Islam. Hussein is going to fit right in with that bunch.

More active? We practically fund the entire criminal enterprise right now.

You think it’s just going to be our soldiers? What about our elections under international review? What about our Constitution? He’ll probably make sure that it matches up to those of other nations under the approval of the UN.

No, I'm sure they'd like to get their hands on Bush and Cheney. But Obama will draw the line when they demand Powell too.

The UN, despicable.
My own Congresscritter wants to sink more money into the bottomless pit that is the country called Africa to fight “Global Poverty” (Can’t call it a black hole anymore)

Well, that southern portion of the country known as Africa, as oppressive as it supposedly was, offered a lot of oppertunity to anyone with a good work ethic, and used to grow lots of food - Just like a few provinces in the country of South America - Till they got rid of thier “Opressors”.

God help us all.

Ban said he had asked for a telephone call with Obama to congratulate him and discuss global challenges including climate change, the financial and food crises, human rights and regional conflicts. He also wanted to meet Obama and his transition team transfer the money as soon as possible.

There, fixed that typo.

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon said on Wednesday he looked for "a new era of partnership" diverting American worker's tax dollars to thugs and dictators and America's enemies with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama...

Mr. Ban shouldn’t get his hopes up too much. There’s that “crisis” thing that Biden and Powell were talking about. ...and President Obama’s promise about limiting tax breaks to companies loyal to and producing in the USA (not that I expect him to have the honesty or the courage to go renegade from our politicians’ favored lobbies and honor that promise).
