(CNN) Votes are still being counted in some states, but conservatives stinging from last nights losses are planning to get together to plan the movements future and so far, it doesnt look like that vision includes John McCain.
McCain, who made a poorly-received appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference last year, was not included on a list of major movement figures invited to next years gathering e-mailed to supporters Wednesday morning. More than a dozen conservative leaders made the cut including McCains running mate, Sarah Palin.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal have also been invited to address CPAC in February, along with McCains former primary season rivals Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.
At CPAC 1975, one speech initiated the conservative comeback, American Conservative Union president David Keene wrote on the invitation to the groups annual meeting, citing Ronald Reagans encouraging words to activists after the disastrous post-Watergate election losses of 1974. CPAC friends, it's imperative that we continue to fight for conservative principles despite recent losses. We face new challenges, but our principles are timeless.

Other way around.
Congratulations to Senator John McCain, the big winner in Florida.
You know, this was what they call a GOP-only primary. So McCain had to win over a whole new voter group for him Republicans. - Jay Leno
I don’t, other than when he finds it politically expedient he will throw Prop 8 under the bus.
The guy changes positions as fast as his Mass playmate John Kerry.
You know, I have to smile at all the early speculation on Presidential candidates.
Remember when everyone was sure our front-runner would be Rudy?
And so the payback begins. Good for CPAC.
Amazing that so many on the right believe this.
Weirdos on the right are as brain-washed as weirdos on the left by the MSM.
The MSM can make or break whomever they want. They are going to ensure their propoganda-spewing position for the fore-seeable future...whatever it takes to maintain their supremacy. And both left and right will swallow their crap.
Speaking of kooks I'm surprised to see Ron Paul was invited.
He seems more libertarian than conservative, and a little imbalanced as well.
There is considerable overlap between conservatives and libertarians, but I figured he'd alienate enough people during his campaign to not get invited to things like this.
Bush came in office with Republican dominance. He's left it in shambles. Just one big coincidence?
Why should moderates and liberals become conservative on issues if they’ll be chastised for it?
Geez.
I really believe that people need to lay off Romney as it pertains to abortion. My most unfortunate story is that I had more than 1 abortion and the crushing shame of them caused me to change and seek God’s forgiveness.
People change on abortion. There was a culture in our society that shamed people if they did NOT support abortion. That is changing and I’m glad Romney changed and I see it as sincere.
Seems to me the biggest problem is the unfairness of having 95% of the written and moving media not just for one party, but venomously apposed to another.
Even our beloved Ronald Reagan would have stumbled against Carter had the election taken place in 2008.
Are the figures in on how much Obama raised and spent yet? Will the figures ever be in on how much free TV time he was given? Will the figures ever be in on how much voter fraud actually occured? How about how much money George Soros spent to destroy Bush and the Republican party, and how much he spent to promote Obama? Was it in the tens of Billions? And what did he have to do with rising oil prices and the timing of the economic collapse?
Poor McCain just didn’t get what he was up against.
I’m with you on that one. McCain ran as McCain. He was always an inconoclast. No sense kicking the man now...and he was not the guy who designed our open primary system.
Well, what about MittCare? Has he renounced that boondoggle too?
Bush didn’t come in with Republican dominance, he had a tied senate that switched after the Jeffords jump, plus small margins in the house. It was Bush that pushed those margins in 2002 and created the Republican dominance in 2004. I agree things are bad, mostly because many of those Republicans in Congress decided to act like Democrats, plus Bush’s refusal to defend himself from attacks in the last four years from the unrelenting attacks by democrats and their propaganda ministers in the msm. And “so-called” republicans who also attacked him repeatedly over the last four years did nothing but help the left.
UPDATE: CPAC Director Lisa De Pasquale said in an e-mail that the list included in the message sent to past CPAC attendees this morning was not complete.
"With the exception of Gov. Palin, who confirmed in early April after having to drop out of CPAC 2008 at the last minute, very few invitations (Jindal and Pence) were sent to elected officials because of the volatility of the November elections," she wrote. "Now that the election has passed, we will begin inviting other elected officials."
The article also said that Ron Paul had been invited. Evidently they're going with a Hale-Bopp theme this year.
"Send him over to the moderate RINO-pac.
There, I fixed it.
Nice revisionist history there. Bush was not the worst president and like others in hindsight he will be recognozed for the good he did, like no terrorist attacks on our shores. McCain was a flawed candidate, maybe the only one who could run against the Democrats this year but flawed nonetheless.
I am not a Paulbot or worse a RINO! I am a social and economic conservative who is not a bible thumper or a rabid partisan. I am also retired military and I did not want McCain as my candidate. Given the choice, I chose McCain over Obama.
As I am fond of saying today, I will take my time in the wilderness and rise again. Moderate Repubs lost in this election. To me that says that when we abandon our core to appease the middle we lose.
amen thank you! What is this sacrosanct position that someone can’t change their mind on abortion!
The MSM loves McCain, especially now that he’s done running against their lord and savior Obama.
Haven’t you heard the gushing over how gracious his speech was and how clean the campaign was...
What a joke. McCain, good riddance.
