The institutions like public schools with their feel good pictures on the wall are relics of the past.The liberal,command economy created from the New Deal is dying before our eyes. A sterner, tougher American will be born because the old safety nets are failing. The old certainties are proving false. BO might just likely be an American Gorbachev spending his term trying to save a dying system. And like Gorby he will fail. BO is a loser and a delusional misfit who will go down in history as a fraud and a failure.

Well said. And since liberalism only indulges weakness, we know that no society can survive if it is weak at the core. I hope and pray we're seeing the last dying gasp of American socialism.

Yes, this in the end will be the way it goes. We just cannot afford the commitments that have been made, the money does not exist. So politicians will keep kicking the can down the road, but in the end we are bankrupt.

Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, welfare .... the liabilities are in the 10s of trillions. Socialism just does not work.

The question is not can we survive or make it through. The question is when we go bankrupt how do we restructure? I agree, this is just a bump in the road on the way to the reckoning. Those that best prepare are the ones who will best deal with its challenges.
