Around the world, media reaction to the Democrats' victory has poured in, as newspapers and broadcasters reflect on the Barack Obama campaign and the global impact his win will have.
The International Herald Tribune said that America had "leaped" across the color line, calling Obama "a 47-year-old black man who made history both because of his race and in spite of it."
The Times of London said Obama had revitalized U.S. politics. "The immense turnout in yesterday's election was testament to the energy, excitement and expectations of a rejuvenated American democracy, as well as the fears of a nation standing at a crossroads of history," the paper said.

In Tunisia, the Arabic daily Al Chourouk said: "Today America elects "The President of the World."

In Russia, Pravda was ecstatic, announcing that "Eight years of hell are over."

“President Obama, this is Vladimir Putin calling from Warsaw.”
Condi Rice has just been trotted out to praise the king-elect.
Obama is only 1/4th black. His mom is white and dad is half white. Trying to give the skinny little kid a ghetto pass is silly.
Betcha Bill Clinton thought he was going to get that title...
See, there’s just no way I can make it four years like this, without being able to keep any solid food down. Egad.
It is absolutely Beastly...
It’s the Audacity of Poop!
Don’t try to bring facts into the discussion— the lefties will turn you into the next Joe the Plumber.
Arnie could start gby getting the anointed one to begin with a 500lb warm up, sans spotters..
Ya, and I just about put a bullet into my TV when the state department spokesman went on talking about the transition within the state dept. and getting the required security clearances started when the president elect himself couldn’t even pass the minimum requirements to qualify for even a basic clearance prior to yesterday.
As with many here I am just absolutely SICK of what has happened to our country and to it’s future.
When Obama first made his appearances in his quest to become president, this is no lie, and something I did not expect - a chill went down my spine and a still small voice within me said "antichrist."
For the first time in his life, NOW Obama will have to produce results. You know, other than writing books. And make no mistake, he has no excuses as he has liberal leaders in charge of both the House and the Senate too.
Of course I already know that he will blame Bush any chance he gets, but since Bush could not blame Clinton for things even 9 months into his term, than BO should lose that option as well (and as fast).
It will kind of be like the fish symbol to early Christians - will be a symbol for like minded Conservatives.
And now, the world will “test” that president and his weakened country.
Getting off the train today I spotted two black women going to work helping themselves to several copies of the daily newspaper after putting in coins for one copy. Spreading the wealth from a hard working newspaper vendor, perhaps a black man himself, to themselves. This will symbolize the elction 2008 for me.
