**Top Thirty Errors That Doomed McCain**
Pajamas Media ^ | November 4, 2008 | Jennifer Rubin

The results are in and the recriminations have begun. Sure, it might not have made any difference, but the number of sins of omission and commission by the McCain campaign is breathtaking. Let’s get a head start on the finger-pointing and give you the top thirty mistakes John McCain and his team made:

Not pursuing the Reverend Wright connection, as an issue of judgment and then credibility. Even Jerry Nadler knew it was a sign that Barack Obama lacked political courage, i.e., character.

Waiting until September to raise Barack Obama’s other troubling connections (e.g., Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi).

Failing to devise a comprehensive economic message until the final weeks of the campaign.

Failure to explain the Democrats’ role in the financial meltdown.

Not enough talk about “friends of Angelo” and Democratic corruption.

Wasting his convention speech on “bipartisanship” and biography instead of pounding home a core economic message.

Frittering away time and money in Iowa.

Losing time in the spring when McCain had sewn up the nomination but Obama had not. An ideal time to begin defining the contrast in messages.

Appallingly deficient “oppo” research and timing. Why didn’t the “bankrupt the coal industry” tape come out before the final weekend?

Going to war with the MSM without an effective plan to use alternate media to get their message out.

Cutting off McCain’s daily access to the traveling press corps.

The frenetic response to the financial meltdown. (Fire Chris Cox! Cancel the debate — no, hold the debate!) All that was missing was juggling knives on a tightrope above a fire pit.

Well, we have two years to regroup. Any ideas on how we do that would be helpful today.

A list of organizations (conservative) to support and join would be appreciated. There are so many.

BO has to fix some huge problems in two years or he and the gang are going to be replaced and I doubt he can do it. We MUST be ready with good, conservative candidates.

McCain ran a crappy campaign, but in reality, this campaign was lost in 2000-2004. Republicans controlled the Presidency & Congress, and what did they do? They spent like mad, allowed subprime lending to corrode the financial sector, and subsidized ACORN, which corroded their political strength.

I could go on, but SENATOR McCain lost this election, not PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE McCain.

“Here’s what totally turned me off... when he told us that we had nothing to fear with Obama in the White House.”

That was incredibly defeatist. I think that at that point, McCain had given up and simply wanted to be loved by the media. That desire for adulation was part of his problem.

While I agree with a lot if not most of that, I still think, and the bloody MSM alluded to last night, MONEY won the election. Money. How could anyone compete with nearly two thirds of a BILLION dollars - almost endless funds to buy and do what-ever you want. Greek columns, 30 minute infomercials, 100 offices in some states, huge ground forces, PAID trolls, and so on.
With enough money, anyone can win anything, and this proves it, IMHO.
Again, folks, I’m not a troll, just a realist. I call ‘em as I see ‘em. My thoughts have been so radical I’ve even upset some folks on the forums that I run!
I say things that are unpopular at times, but my intent is to always tell the truth as far as I know it.
MONEY won this.
Otherwise, that list is really a pretty fair analysis, IMHO.

Don’t blame McCain. He should not have been nominated. I believe he was nominated because the media killed off any other good and serious contenders, leaving McCain who they planned to later trash, after his nomination.

"Let’s face it, very few of us ever liked McCain. Its hard to win when you have a candidate that the biggest advocates in the party don’t like."

True. Obama supporters were passionate, because they KNEW where he stood, uncompromisingly left wing. McCain only got support because he wasn't Obama. I was passionate for GWB in 2000, because I thought he was a real conservative. I had less passion for him in 2004. I voted McCain mostly because I love America and fear for the damage Obama will do.

Without Sarah, Obama would have crushed him and McCain would have been lucky to even get 100 EVs. She campaigned her ASS off, she worked tirelessly, did her best to take it to Obama, spoke the truth of Obama’s intentions at every opportunity, and showed us ALL the kind of refreshing leadership we have been lacking but praying for for YEARS. Joe the Plumber was publicly crucified for asking a QUESTION and getting an answer that exposed Obama. These two courageous people did what they could to help, but it was McCain’s job to make the case of why HE should be the president. He didn’t do that and now we’ll all have to deal with the ramifications of that.

Elections have consequences.

When he said he had a “righteous wind” at his back. Mao used the exact same phrase.

The main difference between this election and 2004 was the media. They were willing to investigate Kerry’s past, but I believe, they recognized the error of their ways, and purposely decide not to destroy “their” candidate this time.
They hated Bush so much that they were willing to overlook all of Obama’s past.

Failure to explain the Democrats’ role in the financial meltdown.

And why was that? Because McCain could not burn his bridges in the Senate, or admit that his bipartisan pals were involved.

Now he can return to his comfortable seat the Senate, continuing the reaching-out waltz we have so grown to loathe -- while the country suffers through the Presidency of Barack Obama.

At least we can officially go back to being honest about how we really feel about him now and he can go back to being the cross dressing republican democrat. The way he campaigned, I think his mission was to lose and take as many with him as possible, including, or perhaps especially, Sarah Palin.

Can’t recall the exact quote, but he did it multiple times to the press.

At the time I found three videos of it on You Tube.

Does it matter really? I ask, how many founding fathers does one need to pass over to get to Chairmna Mao?

There is a serious problem within the Republican ranks.

I guess it’s just me, but I would have listed his record over the 26 years in Congress and the Senate as the first 26 problems. Then I would have gone on from there.

I am pleased that Palin was defended here, rather than scapegoated. Here’s a woman asked to come aboard and help McCain, she did an amazing tireless job, and some Republican talking heads are now starting to dis her.

That seriously angers me.
