the popular vote margin is about what I expected (O +6), but his ad buys and ground games were used very efficiently.
3 very close wins: NC, IN, MO are all due to the overwhelming advantage on the ground.
But now imagine that somehow McCain runs 6 pts better across the board, and ties in popular vote. Guess what - he still loses CO (by 2), IA (by 3) and NM (by a ton), and with it the election.
Here is the problem for the GOP candidates - the West is slipping away. CA, OR, WA are no longer competitive; and if CO, NM, NV are off the board as well, then we are in a big trouble for a long time.
