Given the financial crisis and 70% of voters ranking the economy as the major issue, the Republican candidate was gonna lose. its just as well that McCain got his shot and we can choose someone younger and more conservative for 2012.

The first battle for rebuilding the GOP starts right now: Preventing the rinos from establishing the “move to the center” message as the lesson of this election.
The election was going to be tough for any Republican and McCain did his (very lame) best. An aggressive conservative would have had a much better chance.
If we position ourselves as the protectors of the American Dream against an insane, power hungry, extremist president we have every hope of picking up BIG TIME seats in the midterms. If we compromise and continue living in a gentlemanly “Mr Smith goes to Washington fantasy” we will bleed even more.
We are here and Obama won. Whatever model is in play is dead. Be Specific. Hussein now has Colorado as well. Buck UP.

I never got the impression that he actually wanted to win. I think that he just wanted to say that he was once the nominee.
