Time to shrug, Atlas. Bigtime. Start a ranch or a farm and work at a subsistence level. Barter. Buy used from trusted others. Learn to write letters again. Learn Morse Code and how to operate a ham radio. Buy a shortwave.

It's odd, but for the last year or two I have been positively OBSESSED--for no reason at all--with doing things primitively. I've made my own batteries, hobo stoves, and a solar cooker. I've experimented with compost heating.

Perhaps our good Lord is preparing us for something, eh?

You have to ignore their politics, but MotherEarthNews.com is a terrific site for articles on homesteading and sustainable living.

Also this site is a forum for folks sharing ways to save money, stockpile, buy in bulk, etc. A word to the wise perhaps. Just avoid theological discussions if you’re not of Mormon persuasion:
