Miners' union: McCain camp 'twisting the truth' on Obama, coal

John McCain's campaign has apparently decided its last, best hope to defy the odds and prevail Tuesday lies in a distorted, out-of-context, months-old clip of Barack Obama talking about coal.

McCain has claimed Obama wants to "bankrupt" the coal industry, based on a clip from a January interview with the San Francisco Chronicle's editorial board. The clip was posted online by the same YouTube user who last month unearthed and heavily edited a 2001 clip of Obama speaking to Chicago Public Radio. This time, the coal clip followed the same path to prominence as the previous mini-scandal: from YouTube, to right-wing blog, to the Drudge Report, to Fox News to McCain stump speech.

Obama was discussing his support for a cap & trade system to reduce carbon emissions, which would create a market on which companies could trade emissions credits.

These idiots would rather see the death of their industry rather than take an honest look at their Messiah. What a bunch of dumbsh**s.

I thought coal dust only affected the lungs. Apparently it affects the brain as well.

What a bunch of lemmings.

Good thing we still have a secret ballot in the presidential election.

Miners' union: McCain camp 'twisting the truth' on Obama, coal
That's right because everyone knows how much Democrats love mining and drilling for that nasty stuff...Nevermind when they say that coal is killing us all...That's all just words taken out of context.

It’s clearly the Commie’s plan to bankrupt all American industries so they can be taken over by the government. They are taking over finance/banking now, next will be mining. It’s no coincidence GM and Ford are going bankrupt at this time. Soon, all industry will be in the hands of the government and America will be a Communist state.

This may sound crazy but if Obama wins I hope GM goes out of business. I want the UAW minions to pay!

Disclaimer: I work for GM and I am also a member of the UAW.

In other words, the statements were true but we’re gonna give you a song and dance story saying they were taken out of context and that it is a last ditch effort by McCain to score cheap political points.

Problem is, Obama will probably start a government assited program for all of them, hand them free money and pat them on the head.

yeah, they'll probably all get checks for $53.00 each month... not enough to live on... they'll cry...

How exactly does one “twist” the words that can be viewed straight from one’s mouth and in full context...this guy is unbelievable.

Chilling precursor...I wonder if we’ll all look back in 20 years and hear the fruitloops who got dooped and they’ll say I never saw it coming.

It’s the same theory that makes you claim that the WBEZ interviews were “heavily edited”. Quite a few people just believe it without researching it for themselves.

I spent a most of my life in a union and there is a huge difference between the ‘rank and file’ members and the ‘union officers’ even at the local level but even bigger at the national level, where they are entrenched into democrat socialist policies. Think of it, who are the Reagan Democrats? I assure you it isn’t the union officers that are locked into a cozy relationship with the Democrat congressmen in their areas.

When there is no big difference (eg. Voinovich vs. any Democrat) the rank and file will default to the Dems but when there’s a difference like Reagan or even Bush in 2000, they vote Republican. Not all of course, but enough to carry.

Many union members are ‘conservative’ - it was bomb, bomb Iran, hate commies, they hunt, they’re not fond of welfare, tough on crime, and support the death penalty... and... vote mostly Democrat locally but not necessarily in Presidential elections, where they’ve elected Reagan twice and both Bush’s as well as Clinton. Again, if the coal news would have come out earlier it may have made a difference and it may still. Find out soon enough ;-)

Unions don’t give a damn about the rank and file. Hell, they’d just as soon close the mines if Obamabi said so. Talk about your knuckle dragging dregs of society.

What else could Obama have meant? I mean geez, English is English fellas.

These union guys are a riot. Recently here in wNY, there was a story about the proposed GM-Chrysler merger. Now as far as I know, both GM and Chrysler are in deep do-do. Some union hack up here was going on about how they were going to court, and he was quite optimistic about successfully stopping the deal. So they both go broke and your people have all the jobs they want at no-dollars-per hour. I used to have a pretty-good buy-American streak. Them I realized the unions are driving the US auto companies into bankruptcy, and don’t care, they’re just trying to squeeze every last nickel they can beforehand. And these union twits keep putting the same demholes in office and sit there and blame Bush as the people they put in state-office turn Michigan into a 3rd world country. Today they’ll vote Obama by 10 points. Now I have Toyotas.
