While John McCain's campaign has tried to tie its Democratic rival to socialism, one of the Arizona Republican's top surrogates said Barack Obama is not a socialist.
McCain's campaign had seized on Sen. Obamas statements that he plans to spread the wealth around and sought to tie the Illinois Democrat to socialism.
But former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), while arguing that Obamas economic plan is a job-killer, said Monday on CBSs Early Show: You know, I dont think Barack Obamas a socialist. I think a lot of his policies are inspired by the pathway [that] Europe took. I think the idea of having the government take over healthcare and raise taxes on employers is the wrong direction for the country.
Romney, who was the GOP surrogate tasked with appearing on all of the morning talk shows, also said both candidates are terrific men, when asked if the country would be in good hands if the Democrat is elected.
Ill be very concerned about the economy for the country. Ill be concerned that the economy will be in a slow-down or a recession for a longer, deeper period, Romney stated. I'll be concerned about long term, about a president who would raise taxes on businesses and, if you will, through this intimidation, impose unions on small businesses.
Well, I sure won’t be voting for Mitt in the ‘12 Primary.
That's disingenuous, and you know it. Up until now, Mitt's been an active supporter
Mitt, you ignorant slut! That's what "socialism" is.
Another 90%Democrat. Problem is millions of people would rather have the real thing.
There are some who like to keep jumping up and saying he should have been made running mate instead of Gov. Palin. One guy I know said she may be intelligent in other ways, but was a political idiot. I would prefer a government of political idiots in that case, rather than politically savvy idjits like this.
Republican reluctance to tell it the way is (i.e. “New Tone”) is why the GOP is in its current predicament.
Let’s see the Mittbots whitewash this one...
“I think a lot of his policies are inspired by the pathway [that] Europe took.”
Hey, Mitt... Europe is socialist.
Mitt is incorrect.
Socialist is too gentle. It suggests he’d be happy to stop when our economy was just as overmanaged and unfree as Europe’s. I prefer the term ‘Marxist’ myself, as it suggests he wants to take us through socialism en route the his even more oppressive utopia. Certainly we’ve already seen his full bore authoritarian tendencies!
Shame on Mitt, but it’s no surprise to me at all. If only he could use the excuse of being dumb—he’s actually more malevolently calculating than that, I believe.
Ditto!!! To say this only shows where Romney really stands. Thank God HE didn't become the candidate!!
Romney reaffirms my “hair theory for men.” If a man looks like he spends more time than a vain woman fussing over his hair, it generally means he is compensating for the brains his inflated ego displaced.
Romney forgets his place- he’s a surrogate not a candidate.
Surrogates aren’t supposed to act nice-nice.
McCain can, he can’t.
What a bonehead, and this probably will seal his fate in the party.
When is Slick Willard going to officially endorse his Marxist buddy Barry ?
You are nutz!!
Romneybotz are the ones who started the Blame Sarah campaign and leaked the wardrobe info. Romney is glorified by the Noonans of the world.

Perhaps a waterboard would be appropriate...
