When young people who have the drive and the skill to go to college can't afford to go to college, how do you think we pay for scholarships or loan programs?

When I went to college it was 100% on my dime - no student loans. I worked a full time job and supported a family and NO I didn't expect some rich dude to give money because I needed it.

If America puts this guy in the WH they deserve everything he bestows on this country, and I can only pray there will be enough left to salvage in 2010 and/or 2012.

Maybe I’m a bit stupid, but how does one get a “tax break” if they already don’t pay income taxes?

Every time the guy talks about this stuff, I know what (generally) is going to come out of his mouth. That the American public is even supporting this guy an inch is actually very scary.

If this guy is elected, with such clearly ambitious goals to take money from just about everyone and do with it as he seems to please is truly disturbing.

You don't just give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires

Yeah, those Dozenaires need to have more of their own loopholes, too, right?

So this idea, that somehow everybody is just on their own and shouldn't be concerned about other people who are coming up behind them...

It apparently has never occured to Sen. Obama that in capitalist societies, people save and invest and then help their families and others with the proceeds. If you don't give it to government commisars, you're not giving?

I'd like to think he is being dishonest, but I actually think he's naively swallowed the whole marxist model he was taught at the Ivy League. New ideas? Change? Bah! This has been tried a million times.

Back in the 1990s, we created more millionaires, more billionaires, because the economy was growing, everything was strong, at every income bracket, people were doing well. So this idea, that somehow everybody is just on their own and shouldn't be concerned about other people who are coming up behind them, that's the kind of attitude that I want to end when I am president.

What was Clinton's plan for economic growth? Riding on the coattails of the Reagan-Bush economy (that had already come out of the recession) and an internet stock bubble and Enron scams. The market had collapsed starting in 1998 and by 2001 when Bush was in office things weren't so hot. 9-11-2001 didn't help. But things recovered.

Barry Soeroto doesn't explain how his redistribution is going to create jobs or production. It'll just give those who don't work more money to spend at fast food restaurants and at Wally World on consumer goods they don't need. That won't fix the economy, especially as taxes go up and goods and services ALSO go up in price.

DUMBA$$.

What is amazing to me is this whole notion that somehow everybody is just looking out for themselves.

Most people with a brain get over that when they learn the hard way. Maybe if one is a member of an entitled minority, and therefore gets preferential treatment for their entire life, one will always be amazed at how things really are for the rest of us.

Yes Barack, people are looking out for themselves and for their families. Policy should be such that when people do that, it helps them as individuals as well as society as a whole.

Ok, so we have 20 million illegal immigrants who came here with nothing and who will be given citizenship over being sent back home.

So we have to help "them come up" economically, at which point they will be taking higher paying jobs and we will be needing even more low income foreign workers to come over here to work crappy jobs below minimum wage. And we'll be paying for the social safety net and economic redistribution the entire time.

Ponzi scheme or highway robbery.

Maybe I'm no economist, but a lot of loan programs charge borrowers interest for the money. In turn, they pay part of the interest received from the borrower to investors who put up the money. I'm just sayin'...

If Obama is elected, this will end "individualism". What is it going to be ? When I take vacation, will I have to get approval from the bureaucrats and have some kind of "societal benefit" requirement clause ?

With the person mentioning on why work hard when you get more taken. Could this tie to Michelle Obama's comment of "you will be required to work..." so that way you are forced to work hard even though you get no additional benefit from the required extra effort. Instead of the extra effort, you could be at home enjoying quality leisure time including family time.

Back on vacation, I am sure leisure time will be assaulted even more. I remembered working for a liberal democrat manager and he didn't like anyone taking vacation except for his select few favorite boys.

Now on college. One common item is it has gotten expensive. Instead of finding ways to pay the more and more expensive price tag, there needs to be ways to make it cheaper. One thing I remembered, the college I went to had a hefty price tag. Also, a lot of "in house" grants were provided to "less fortunate" students. Kind of a charade. Universities should not be taking any money in it's budget to subsidize less fortunate students, therefore, they can have a lower tuition bill. Another item from my college, they had so many "expensive" administrators. Maybe it is time to reexamine the usefulness of these top heavy executives and staff with them as well.

What you do is make sure the tax code is fair.

A flat rate for everyone would seem to be the most fair. Kind of an "equal protection under the law" type thing...

Since when do we elect presidents to "end" attitudes? The Constitution provides for a Chief Executive whose job it is to see that the laws are faithfully executed - I don't see where the re-education part comes in.

“So this idea, that somehow everybody is just on their own and shouldn’t be concerned about other people who are coming up behind them, that’s the kind of attitude that I want to end when I am president.”

I’ve got a book ObamaNATION should read; “Looking out For #1” by Robert J. Ringer.

In it, he explains why it is not only right, but beneficial to look out for oneself. I’ve read it, and frankly, it’s done a great job of convincing me that if everyone minded their own business and didn’t try to “help” other people, the world would work out a lot better.
