MONTREAL — A Quebec comedy duo notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state has reached Sarah Palin, convincing the Republican vice-presidential nominee she was speaking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

In the interview, which lasts about six minutes, Ms. Palin and the pranksters discuss politics, pundits, and the dangers of hunting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.

The Masked Avengers, who have a regular show on Montreal radio station CKOI, intend to air the full interview on the eve of the U.S. elections.

The well-known duo of Sebastien Trudel and Marc-Antoine Audette have also tricked Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and French president Jacques Chirac.

The call to Mr. Chirac was rated by the BBC as one of the top 30 best moments in radio history of all time.

“It has to be a fake Palin — no one running for office, no matter how unsophisticated in the ways of international affairs could possibly believe they were getting a cold call from the President of France. If it is her on that call, I’m afraid it doesn’t do much for the ‘she’s a quick study’ theory. “

It is her. The campaign said so.

“In a statement Saturday, Ms. Palin’s team said the vice-presidential nominee was “mildly amused” to learn she was the victim of a prank.

“Gov. Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters,” said spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt.”

They’re well-known but notice that their targets never listen to Quebec radio. That’s the key to an effective phone prank- always call someone who’s never heard of you.

If it is her on that call, I'm afraid it doesn't do much for the 'she's a quick study' theory.

Well be afraid then, because it was her. On the plus side, she sounded very nice and friendly. On the down side, well, let's just say that the folks who already think she's a drag on McCain's ticket will have lots of new material now.

Please, it was a prank call and just shows that she is a trusting person. With all the other ‘static’ going on the last three days of the election, this is a non-event.

I'm sorry. Could you translate? I dont speak in surrender talk.

;-)

“Too bad the Brits didn’t send ALL their sorry butts back to France in 1763.”

Wouldn’t that have had implications for the chain of events that led to the War of Independence?

Why? The French Canadians did NOTHING to help Americans during the Revolution. They supported the Brits
