Obama and the Runaway Train The race, the case, a hope for grace.(Peggy Noonan's Dribble)
New York Times ^ | 10/31/08 | Peggy Noonan

The case for Barack Obama, in broad strokes:

He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief. He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. Obama and the Runaway Train The race, the case, a hope for grace.

He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make. We witnessed from him this year something unique in American politics: He took down a political machine without raising his voice.

Peggy is all about style over substance. I don’t know if she ever was any kind of conservative, or merley an opportunist, but it is obvious that now she cares only about what she can weave into her babbling illusions.

She does not even deign to analyze serious issues, it’s all about what she finds aesthetically pleasing in her small, blinkered reality.

Ironically, she is the one who disdained “narrative” as the supposed basis for the selection of Governor Palin to be the VP nominee, but here she shows us that all she cares about are her silly ideas of a pretty “narrative”.......

Where DID you find that pic Fred? Sheesh. I looked for an hour trying to find a photo of her without her face air brushed out, but could not.!

Kudos to YOU!

As we used to say up in Red Neck Canada: " I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers!"

Now I fully understand why Michelle sent her abroad! She's a cutey.

But Obama is going to collect on that one. You can count on it. The poor girl. Why is it that beautiful women always fall for the biggest A$$ Holes they can find? Is Darwinian selection at work?

Supposedly the Bush team rejected her overtures, and she has been bitter ever since.

I don’t usually like to psychologize first (before discussing ideas) but in this case there are no ideas, just a woozy stream of babble about why she is joining the Obamamessiah personality cult.

The only way to treat Peggy Noonan now is with psychological analysis of her projection, rejection anxiety, revenge fantasies, and all-around loserhood.

Peggy Noonan appears to have taken over the vacuum created when Al Hunt left the Wall Street Journal.

Her weekly dose of north-east liberal correctness will be given the same respect and consideration the BS from Hunt was given.

She has become a bull$hit artist is what she’s become.

What a load of unadulterated excrement.

Obama is a baby-murdering street thug. He belongs in JAIL for the credit card fraud DELIBERATELY ENABLED on his website—for that crime ALONE he should be in jail.

But she has lost her mind...

And quite possibly her soul. She’s Catholic and our bishops are strongly urging Catholics to understand they must vote pro-life in this election. They’ve passed out printed booklets at Mass outlining true Catholic teaching on a Catholic voter’s responsibilities.

Something’s wrong with her. A two bit psychologist might wonder if Peggy once made the opposite “choice” that Sarah Palin made— and that’s why she’s so unhinged about Palin.

Something new is happening in America. It is the imminent arrival of a new liberal moment. History happens, it makes its turns, you hold on for dear life. Life moves.

Eras end, and begin. "God is in charge of history." And so my beautiful election ends.

Boy, you can say that again, sister. Peggy Noonan was once an eloquent muse of the Reagan revolution. She has morphed into a self-obsessed navel-gazer. And the slack she is willing to cut Obama is nauseating.

OTOH, Peggy still manages a useful insight now and then. I think that she's right about our entering a era in our country's history. We are on the verge of a true "post-Cold War" era. McCain may well be the last "Cold Warrior" to hold the Presidency. Sarah definitely represents the generation that came of age during Reagan's time. Obama represents all those who sulked on the sidelines and resisted the Reagan revolution. Biden...he's just a dinosaur. He is a buffoon from a time that's past its sell-by date.

Buckley is gone. Kirk is gone. John Paul II is gone. Thatcher will be gone someday soon. It breaks my heart to say it, but someday we'll pick up the newspaper (or more likely, log on to Free Republic), and read that "conservative activist Phylis Schlafly died peacefully in her sleep" (probably at the age of 90-something)....Yes, the old lions of the 20th century are departing the stage. It's time for the Palin generation "to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them." There is something "new" afoot, however we want to phrase it. It saddens me that old timers like Noonan seem to be no help in enlightening us about what is truly at stake in this era. Everything has always been all about them (e.g., "My beautiful election ends").

This is a wonderful election. We are really seeing the worst trash of both sides very clearly in the light of day.

No kidding. It's like our worst vs. their worst.

Just remember...win or lose, I will do everything in my power to make sure that those who stabbed Sarah Palin in the back will never again be able to show their face or work in the Republican world ever again. That includes Peggy Noonan, but also (if it can be verified after Tuesday) the turncoats in the pathetic McCain campaign: Nicole Wallace, Rick Davis, Steve Schmidt, Tucker Bounds, or whoever leaked the wardrobe and the “diva” crap (my $ on Wallace for that). Please join me in pledging to make damn sure these vile creatures are blacklisted from our ranks until the day they pass.

He took down a political machine without raising his voice.

"Get in their face...argue with them!"

McCain signs burned. McCain workers maced and assaulted. Joe the Plumber questions Obama...Obama supporters in government unlawfully violate his privacy. Now Tito speaks up...and we can be sure Obama's Gestapo troops will go after his private records, perhaps even try and injure or kill him.

Obama doesn't need to raise his voice. His mindless minions do the shouting and the shrieking and the burning and the beating.

Peggy Noonan is a delusional, self-absorbed old woman, who has lost her sense of honor and country, for the sake of a smooth voice which conceals a dangerous fanaticism.

There is nothing new about it, Peggy. It's called socialism.
