33.5 Million Viewers Watched Obama’s Infomercial
Nielsen Wire ^ | October 30, 2008

Posted on 10/30/2008 2:46:44 PM PDT by tamu95_mom

Senator Barack Obama’s infomercial drew 33.5 million U.S. viewers Wednesday night, according to Nielsen.

The simulcast — the first of its kind since Ross Perot ran a political telecast on the eve of Election Day in 1996 aired on CBS, FOX, NBC, Univision, BET, MSNBC, and TV One between 8pm and 8:30pm EST.

Perot’s 1996 telecast drew almost 22.7 million viewers.

On an average Wednesday night, these networks draw a combined average of 30.3 million average viewers during the that half-hour daypart.

In comparison, the final debate between the two presidential candidates drew 56.5 million U.S. viewers on October 15. The candidates’ first debate on September 26 drew 52.4 million viewers; their second debate, on October 7, drew 63.2 million viewers.

33.5 Million Viewers Watched Obama’s Infomercial

I am proud to report that no one from this household was among them!

Is anyone here even a Nielsen rating participant?

I think conservatives would not be as likely to participate in something like that.

I bet the average Nielsen participant is far more likely to be in love with their televisions and be democrats.

Basically this is just another poll of a small number of willing participants that is supposed to represent accurately millions. Anyways, from what we know, it was so bad I doubt it convinced anyone at all.

Nielsen reports live viewings and later on adds DVR “time shifting.”

The real story isn’t the household number (rating) but the “share” rating - 71% of tv viewers watched something else in the time slot.

And yes, nearly 3 times as many people watched the Palin-Biden debate.

I wasn’t either.

Watching him buffalo his way thru his infomercial would have raised my blood pressure significantly.

And I don’t need that!

I think letting Obama preen for 30 minutes in such a staged performance without interruption was far more illustrative of his lack of depth, than rebutting him

He was his own worst enemy

So even by the highest estimates of viewership the PALIN/biden debate got more than double than the Messiah and a little more than half of the people who voted for Kerry.

Obama has jumped the shark.

That’s the $64,000 question. Were these numbers taken at the BEGINNING of the Obamercial or were they taken at the middle or the end? Since I didn’t even bother checking the DNC Propaganda Stations when I got home, was the Obamercial on live in the West at 5:00? I was, thankfully, not home.

I’d like to see the numbers for the individual networks — if Fox has the best numbers, it HAS to be people waiting for the Series and tuning the ONE out.

Well, actually, Fox said this morning that only 17 million watched. I would say that was the real number and this inflated number is BS, especially since earlier Nielsen said that 26 million watched. This is a lot like the inflated numbers for Bozo’s rallies isn’t it?

The traditional diary method of recording viewing habits would severly pad O's numbers. In this case you wouldn't have to really watch it or really watch the whole thing, just jot down that they did.

Does anybody know whether Nielsen has converted to automated TV rating methods like they recently did for radio? The new method tends to give the urban radio stations much worse ratings.

If you have a TIVO you’re a Nielsen household.

Obama is doing quiet a bit to promote reading. Every time he comes on in a commercial, I go into another room and read a book.

Can someone give an intelligent but brief critique of Obama's performance and the force, if any, of the infommercial. No one-liners, please.

I didn't watch it due to helping out with the Palin rally that's coming to my town Saturday A.M.

My local talk radio host said today that the Messiah's half-hour came off slick and over-produced. What sayeth some freeper analyzers?

apparently many of the people who will vote for or already voted for the one, watched him in adoration

Yup! The master spoke to his cult followers. Hail the Master, Obama the mighty.

Nielsen reports live viewings and later on adds DVR “time shifting.”

That sounds a little disingenuous on the part of Neilson. DVRs automatically "record" whatever channel the live tuner is currently tuned to, whether the individual is actually watching the TV or not. So the DVR's could have been tuned to the ONE even though no one was actually had the set on and were viewing.
