This morning President Bush welcomed President Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government to the Oval Office. The two leaders discussed the future of a democratic Iraq and the upcoming elections which Iraqis unanimously approved last month. (Transcript)

In related news—news that the mainstream media refuses to report—the Wasit Province, located south of Baghdad, was returned to Iraqi civilian control today.

Press Secretary Dana Perino: It becomes the 13th of 18 provinces to take the lead for its security in Iraq. It's the second Iraqi province to transfer security responsibility in the last two weeks, and we had Babil just a week before.

So now, more than two-thirds of Iraq is now under provincial Iraqi control.

And it was another day of HUGE rallies for Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Gov. Sarah Palin as she campaigned around Ohio, first speaking in Toledo, then at a rally in Bowling Green where thousands of enthusiastic supporters welcomed her and Ohio native Joe Wurzelbacher (aka “Joe the Plumber” ), who joined Sarah & Todd on stage, and finally Sarah spoke to thousands more at an outdoor rally in Chillicothe.

Hi jonny, great photos tonight. Seven year’s seven months I have adored our President and his family. So dignified, steadfast always concerned to hold the Office of the President in high esteem. I am scared to death that we will never see a President like that again.

JONNY!

There are SO many great pix tonight, and you haven’t even finished posting them as I type this. The pictures of Sarah are delightful, HER delight which fills us with the same feeling. What a great day to win the toaster.

BUT, SNUGS, I’d like the especially good picture of Pres. Bush on my toaster when you have time. It’s the second picture on post #6. And thank you, Snugs.

Hi Jonny!

Great dose tonight! Love the pics of Sarah, Todd, and Joe.

Joe said he’s single, but I can’t imagine that will be the case for long!

“I am here to convey the gratitude of the Iraqi people in general and the people of Kurdistan, in particular, for the brave decision that you’ve made to rid us of this dictatorship.

We are very grateful for all the brave souls, women and men in uniform, who gave their dear lives in the process. And we are very grateful to the American people and to you, Mr. President, for this sacrifice.” . . . . Yet another reason President Bush will be regarded as one of the greatest presidents in US and WORLD history!!

silent_jonny: Thank you for the quote and the DOSE!

THANK YOU PRESIDENT BUSH . . .

CONSERVATIVES HAVE RESHAPED APPEALS COURTS
By CHARLIE SAVAGE
Published: October 28, 2008

WASHINGTON — After a group of doctors challenged a South Dakota law forcing them to inform women that abortions “terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique living human being” — using exactly that language — President Bush’s appointees to the federal appeals courts took control.

A federal trial judge, stating that whether a fetus is human life is a matter of debate, had blocked the state from enforcing the 2005 law as a likely violation of doctors’ First Amendment rights. And an appeals court panel had upheld the injunction.

But this past June, the full United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit voted 7 to 4 to overrule those decisions and allow the statute to take immediate effect. The majority argued that it is objectively true that human life begins at conception, and that the state can force doctors to say so.

Mr. Bush had appointed six of the seven judges in the conservative majority. His administration has transformed the nation’s federal appeals courts, advancing a conservative legal revolution that began nearly three decades ago under President Ronald Reagan.

On Oct. 6, Mr. Bush pointed with pride to his record at a conference sponsored by the Cincinnati chapter of the Federalist Society, the elite network for the conservative legal movement. He noted that he had appointed more than a third of the federal judiciary expected to be serving when he leaves office, a lifetime-tenured force that will influence society for decades and that represents one of his most enduring accomplishments. While a two-term president typically leaves his stamp on the appeals courts — Bill Clinton appointed 65 judges, Mr. Bush 61 — Mr. Bush’s judges were among the youngest ever nominated and are poised to have an unusually strong impact.

THE MEDIA GETS IT WRONG AGAIN:

EXACTLY WRONG, AGAIN
By Randall Hoven

The message blasted at us day after day by the Obama campaign and its public relations machine, otherwise known as mainstream media, is that we are in a recession, we have been for essentially the last eight years, and the US is unique in this because of the failed policies of George W. Bush.

We are not in recession. The economy of the last eight years has been fine. And we are doing better than our European know-it-alls who favor an Obama victory. At least that’s what the most recent economic data show.
