The ironic thing is that George Orwell was wrong:

1. He never thought that Victory Gin or cigarettes would actually be taken away and more importantly
2. He never thought that the same mass media that was used to oppress the masses could be used against Gubmint control...he had no way of knowing that 60 years later there would be internet, cable, satellite or talk radio.

Technology used AGAINST BIG BROTHER was unheard of.

I don’t think he intended a stone cold prediction.

On the other hand, I think he was uncannily prescient. There are no pneumatic tubes, no ‘memory hole.’ But if the powers that be want to edit recent history, all they need to do now is change the website. Paragraphs disappear, stories disappear, photos are altered virtually untraceably, etc.

Still, points taken.
