Niger found guilty of slavery allegations

SENEGAL — A West African regional court found the government of Niger guilty on Monday of failing to protect a young woman who was sold into slavery at the age of 12.

The landmark ruling, which was delivered by a regional tribunal sitting in Niamey, Niger's capital, ordered the government to pay about $19,000 in damages to the woman, Hadijatou Mani, who is now 24.

Slavery is outlawed in Niger and the rest of Africa, but it persists in pockets of Niger, Mali and Mauritania. Anti-slavery organizations estimate that 43,000 people are enslaved in Niger alone, where nomadic tribes have for centuries held members of other ethnic groups as slaves.

Mani's experience was typical of the practice. She was born into a traditional slave class and given to Souleymane Naroua at age 12 for about $500. Mani told court officials that Naroua forced her to work his fields for a decade. She also said he raped her repeatedly over the years.

And African American race mongers like Jesse Jackson make a lot of money with the lie that whitey (mostly Jewish whities) were 100% to blame for the African slave trade.

Only $19,000 in damages ? A very niggardly act on the part of the govt. of Niger.

Wait, this isn’t right...America invented slavery, it only ever took place in the American south, Africans don’t enslave other Africans! Oh, and slavery doesn’t exist in Muslim nations!(Niger is 80% Muslim) Islam is the religion of peace!

“where nomadic tribes have for centuries held members of other ethnic groups as slaves.”

Hmmmmm, slavery in Africa for centuries. Who would have thought such a thing. No complaints from the NAACP and other Black groups in this country.

This is a good start.

The poor countries of West Africa are relatively easy targets and this was a brave woman to pursue this.

However, the biggest slave owners are our allies, the Saudis, and they are untouchable.

I think that if the word “niggardly” can cause such a stern reaction from the PC crowd, that the country of Niger should be dissolved and renamed.

Where is Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Oh, that’s right, Niger doesn’t have any money to shake down.

You shouldn’t use the ‘n-word’, especially when talking about African slaves, as it is racist. </s>

Looks to be the first place Obama needs to look for reparations to all the black Americans who were slaves but are all dead.

So many people have come close to saying “nigger” that they should just cowboy up and let it out. Sometimes I wonder about this forum....

To John: Apparently you didn't get the humor. That's the whole point. It's to make fun of the ignorance of the PC crowd (Jackson, Sharpton..) without actually using the N word.
