If Obama wins, Romney could be 'repackaged' for 2012 GOP challenge

WASHINGTON—A week from today, Americans will pick a new president, but a surprising beneficiary may be off the ballot: Mitt Romney.

With polls in key states forecasting a comfortable victory by Sen. Barack Obama and fellow Democrats, Republicans may find themselves booted out of the White House, shoved further into the minority in Congress and marginalized in the powerhouse of Washington.

If Sen. John McCain loses next Tuesday, Romney could be well positioned to rise as a leader of the Republican Party to guide conservatives through a few years in the political wilderness and a favorite for the GOP presidential nomination come 2012.

God forbid but I believe Jindahl will play Reagan to Obama’s Carter.

Palin is a sensation but Jindahl would clean Obama’s clock in the debates and would be able to criticize Obama without it being called “racism.” We saw it with hilary: even a woman can’t criticize a black man.

Jindahl can simply because his skin is dark. And yes he is indian, but black people think Obama is black and he is in fact white and arab mostly.

If Obama wins, it will be, in part, because of the venal, coveting, Romney
who directed his people to destroy Gov Palin and her beautiful family for MythRomney.

"You will embrace this rebellion. Support it, from our lands in
the north. I will gain English favor by condemning it and
ordering it opposed from our lands in the south. Whichever way
the tide runs, we will rise."

A guy who made his own coin vs a guy who married it.

Mitt Romney isn't exactly a self-made man:

NO! ENOUGH ALREADY

I would craw on broken glass to vote for Palin/Jindal. By 2012 the experience question would no longer be a arguing point for the Dems.

It seems like we should go for a conservative candidate in 2012. Romney aint that.

Give it up.

We don’t want or need a “repackaged” candidate. We need a genuine conservative. Sarah, Jindal or even Joe the Plumber but not him.

Good, but we need Romney now. Hopefully, John McCain will win and he’ll be assisting with the economy in whatever way he can.

I want a candidate that will say what needs to be said to get elected. John McCain is too much of a “Statesman” to get down to the dirty deeds needed to win an election. Anyone who touts being “most conservative” will be portrayed from now on as “most racist” by the new empowered left. Get used to it because the media will do whatever necessary to protect their new messiah. Everything a conservative says will be portrayed as “code talk” for being against the black president.

I think Romney’s done. I was for him after Fred dropped out but have been sorely disappointed in him since the convention. He’s done practically nothing to help the ticket. His people have been taking shots at Governor Palin almost every day and now they’re floating stories about 2012. Conservatives have reasserted themselves in the GOP and that sort of leaves Mitt out.

Business career (From Wikipedia)

After graduation, Romney remained in Massachusetts and went to work for the Boston Consulting Group, where he had interned during the summer of 1974.[10] From 1978 to 1984, Romney was a vice president of Bain & Company, Inc., another management consulting firm based in Boston. In 1984, Romney left Bain & Company to co-found a spin-off private equity investment firm, Bain Capital.[11] During the 14 years he headed the company, Bain Capital's average annual internal rate of return on realized investments was 113 percent,[12] making money primarily through leveraged buyouts.[13] He invested in or bought many well-known companies such as Staples, Brookstone, Domino's, Sealy Corporation and Sports Authority.[14]

In 1990, Romney was asked to return to Bain & Company, which was facing financial collapse. As CEO, Romney managed an effort to restructure the firm’s employee stock-ownership plan, real-estate deals and bank loans, while increasing fiscal transparency. Within a year, he had led Bain & Company through a highly successful turnaround and returned the firm to profitability without layoffs or partner defections.[12]

Romney left Bain Capital in 1998 to head the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games Organizing Committee.[15] He and his wife have a net worth of between 250 and 500 million USD.[16][17] , not including Romney's blind trust in the name of their children, which is valued at about $100 million.[18]

This looks like a man who accomplished something in building a fortune. Doesn't hurt to get a head start but plenty of influential people's kids turn out to be dolts.

It would, indeed, be rather like our First Triumvirate, wouldn't it? Another 50 years of Dem rule presided over by these three. Should we drape the Senate chambers and the White House with imperial cloth of gold?

“If Obama wins, Romney could be ‘repackaged’ for 2012 GOP challenge”

In Sarah Palin, we have seen a real conservative again. That is refreshing and very exciting. We will not go back to a Romney type again.

Isn't the Salt Lake Tribune the Rocky Mountain version of the New York Slimes?

If I recall, this is the same fishwrap which ran the news article a few days ago about how the California marriage initiative was dividing the Mormon Church. Isn't this the same type of initiative which became necessary because some judge overturned one which was passed by the voters in 2000?
