DENVER (Map, News) - Some Colorado Democrats are starting to sweat after the state released numbers showing that mail ballots and early voting in key counties are not what they expected.
The latest figures from the secretary of state's office, compiled before Democrat Barack Obama's Sunday rallies in Colorado, showed that 22 percent of Democratic voters in Denver who received mail ballots have sent them back. In contrast, 26 percent of Republicans who received mail ballots have returned them.
In Adams County, a quarter of registered voters from both parties returned their ballots, and in Pueblo, 20 percent did.
Mike Melanson, campaign manager for Democratic Senate candidate Mark Udall, said he's worried that Democratic voters have become complacent because polls show their candidates ahead. He said if voters wait until later in the week to mail their ballots, those ballots might not get to county clerks before the deadline at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
I would worry that my absentee vote would get lost or discarded by Democrat fraudsters.
Much rather watch my vote get tallied on the machine at my local voting booth, where I know the Republican poll watcher well enough to know he is honest.
I’ve been volunteering down at my local Colorado McCain-Palin HQ for the last two weeks - we have been practically stalking Republican voters, making phone calls and precinct walking in our Get Out The Vote effort.
Hearing this Demonrat guy say this ‘sends a thrill up my leg’.
ha-ha.
They lost, maybe found 11,000 ballots for Denver recently.
Ping!
Geeezz, but, but didn’t the DENVER newspaper outlet already declared Ozero the WINNER? Didn’t they say they already have a special limited newspaper declaring OZERO the winner ready to be released either tomorrow or Wed?
That was an obscure bi-weekly New Mexico newspaper.
My ballot was mailed last week. Not that it really matters here in Oregon.
LOL. 4 ballots from this house - taken directly to the post office for the same reason.
Does anyone know what is the regisered voter breakdown by party affiliation in CO ?
Close to third each.
Current we are ahead slightly, but the registered independents control the game.
Not sure of exact numbers.
Republicans with a 78,000 voter lead over Dems and a slight lead over Independents:

Republicans have regained their status as the largest voting bloc in Colorado, a battleground state for the 2008 presidential election.
The Colorado secretary of state says in a report posted online this week that registered Republicans total more than 1,024,500. Unaffiliated voters are second at just under 1,022,400.
Democrats are third at just under 946,200. But in June and July, Democrats registered nearly 13,700 new voters, compared with just under 4,100 new Republican registrations and about 400 new unaffiliated voters.
Republicans had been bumped from the No. 1 spot in June by unaffiliated voters. That was the first time in nearly two decades that unaffiliated voters were the largest voting demographic in the state.
