Media analyst Bob Knight is questioning the Obama campaign's decision to sell Chicago election night coverage packages to news outlets.
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet notes the Obama campaign is planning to charge reporters $935 for a package that includes access to a heated file tent, power, cable TV, Internet, and food. The cheapest place a reporter could stand on a riser with a view is $880. Members of the media will also be charged $300 for an unlimited long distance phone line and $275 for high-speed wired Internet.
According to Sweet, "This is an outrageous pay-to-play plan that caters to national elite outlets with deep pockets." Bob Knight, director of the Culture and Media Institute, agrees.
"Some folks might feel that this shows that Obama doesn't believe in a free press, but one he would charge for," he says, chuckling. "Really, it's kind of funny because the media have done so much to boost his candidacy that you'd think the least he could do is give them a few hors d'oeuvres on the night of his coronation, if he is elected."
Knight says the Obama campaign's "pay-to-play plan" is unprecedented. "In all my years as a reporter and editor, I have never heard of anything like that," he shares, "and I just asked a colleague at a major newspaper if he had [ever heard of such a thing] and he said, 'No.' He finds it very strange."
The media analyst doubts the major media will care about the pricey election night packages because, as he puts it, they "love Obama" and "have deep pockets."
Yes, if there was any justice in the world, the media would finance the Democratic Party 100%. Unfortunately there is only one Rupert Murdoch in the world, ready willing and financially able to finance the other major political party with its morally and economically bankrupt ideology.
Obama will not lose on November 4. Even if he loses all 50 states by margins of 20 points or more, he'll still unleash his mountains of voters to challenge the results in the closest states. Even if that doesn't work, I wouldn't count Mr. Obama out until the Electoral College votes are counted.
OK,its a deal so long as Northern California and Southern California each have 43 electoral votes.
I don’t think that Canada has an electoral college.
In a way, they do.
It's called Parliament.
Hey, that is something we can agree upon, 100%!!!
Why should the Democrats have to make their way in the world without the absolute, unqualified support, both financial and propagandistic, of their beloved Mediascum?
It really doesn't seem quite right that the Democrats should ever face the slightest doubts about the wholehearted devotion of the media types to the cause. I agree, let's pass a law that makes it a requirement that all owners and employees in obviously liberal media entities must direct all of their income to the Democrat Party.
At least then no one in the public could claim cluelessness any longer about the predominant media agenda.
It is truly astonishing (and hilarious) that you leftists are so obsessed with Murdoch and FoxNews.
First, Fox is far from conservative, but as the only network that bothers to give more than a minute and misleading representation of some conservative-leaning views it stands out from the usual liberal swill on TV.
2nd, the left’s obsession with attacking and diminishing and destroying FoxNews shows the true totalitarian impulses of leftists everywhere.
Despite pretence of tolerance, hardly anyone on the left is actually tolerant of any “conservative” people and views. I speak from first-hand experience over many years.
Leftists want to destroy FoxNews because they cannot stand to have the long-standing media monopoly challenged.
You have NBC-MSNBC-CBS-ABC-PBS-NPR and virtually all of the 25 largest metro daily newspapers, plus the so-called “news” magazines such as TIME and Newsweak..... yet you all are utterly obsessed with attacking and diminishing FoxNews b/c you cannot bear to see that any TV network is not completely under the control of demented socialists like yourselves.
I’m not much of a fan of Fox and I don’t even bother to watch any TV for news or commentary anymore, but I do enjoy laughing at this demented obsession the left has with Fox and Murdoch.
