Letter: It's time to seek third way
The News Herald, Panama City, Florida ^ | 2008-10-21 | Edward D. Armbruster

I worked tirelessly for the Northwest Florida Republican Party for many years. I need to start over and this time seek the beginning of a truly independent party.

First, the Democratic Party left us and now the Republican Party has dumped us. The bailout for Wall Street, the banks and the greedy real estate mortgage companies and all their coharts should never have happened. They should have been left in the burning meltdown they created. We have mortgaged our grandchildren and great grandchildren. I cannot believe that I have lived to see our once great and mighty country slide slowly toward liberalism and now, like a sinking ship, slide into the depths of socialism.

And what’s the third way really? Mexico had a third way about 60 years ago. Hold and election, shoot the winner, install the loser.

You apparently aren’t aware of how difficult it is to start another political party and get on the ballot in all states. Recall Ross Perot’s difficulties, although he was a Clinton shill.

Follow Rush Limbaugh! He will lead us out of the wilderness!

Rush helped sandbag our best general election candidate, Fred Thompson.

“Rush helped sandbag our best general election candidate, Fred Thompson.”

No. Rush didn’t so that. Fred did that.

Fred had NO PASSION. He fizzled away. He mislead us and let us down. I would have voted for him in the primary had he stayed in.

Yeah, Rush DID do that, and so did a lot of other talking heads. Fred OFFERED himself to us and the elites were more interested in the midgets running. No surprise when we ended up with Juan.

No.

I agree with the other poster. Fred was probably my second choice after Hunter, but when I heard Thompson speak in New Hampshire, I was discouraged, to say the least.

He had all the charisma of drying paint. Nothing personal, but when running for public office, you have to at least appear dynamic and energetic. I saw him in a diner up there talking to people, and he looked like someone who was completely lost and had come in to ask for directions. He DID look old and feeble. I had no idea he would come across that way, because I had only read his statements and saw the video with him smoking that cigar, which I really liked.

I don’t watch television so I had never seen him in that medium. I was surprised. There was no way on earth he would have won a national campaign. I am not basing my opinion solely on his appearance, and was familiar with his policy positions, but that was a real shocker for me.

Just my opinion.

Fred did himself in. Don’t blame others for what FRED didn’t do. We were practically begging FRED to SPEAK UP. He wouldn’t. Finally near the END, he showed some LIFE. He was a sore disappointment. He lead us on. McPain isn’t much better. If it weren’t for Sarah who adds LIFE, we wouldn’t have a chance.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree. Fred was always underestimated, and yet still would pull off a win. He had to go up against the entire RINO establishment and so-called self-appointed Conservative talking heads, and they didn’t give him the time of day. If he appeared tired to you, it’s because the man was running himself ragged keeping up on top of things. I remember Jeri angrily rattling off on Larry King all of the things Fred did when the BULL$HIT charge of laziness was levelled at him. Rush is first and foremost, an entertainer. I don’t follow entertainers.

Post #13. Fred was speaking up, but the media and the establishment was making sure he WASN’T heard. They were more interested in the good-haired Socialist scum from Massachusetts or Elmer Gantry Pyle from Arkansas. Big f’ing joke.

We can agree to disagree on this. Bottom line, our political system does not lend itself to selection of high quality people. It is still the best out there, but it does have its faults.

Let’s see here. Third way. Oh yes... Constitution party, Libertarian party. Funny thing is, both are still with us and they have a small loyal band of followers along with legions of detractors with apparently a much different idea of what “limited government” means. Where’s the Reform party? It’s gone to the same place that its Kool-aid merchant leadership has gone ...nowhere.

No, Fred wasn’t speaking up and when he did he had no LIFE. I WANTED HIM to be our nominee. He sputtered out. The media pushed McPain and the Huckster. Mitt was done in by the Evangelical and Huck. The media helped elect McPain. Fred really let people DOWN

The system doesn’t lend itself to quality Republicans. The media stops those at the door, and apparently, so do our own people. It’s remarkable that Gov. Palin wasn’t run off the ticket after a week. She’s the ONLY good to come out of this cycle.

I like and listen to Rush, but Rush is pretty much a shill for Republicans. He isn't leading anyone to anywhere but to republicans and frankly, they are the problem too.
