Some of the posts on here are so so so amusing! Let's see, the implication that any woman who doesn't support Sarah is a lesbian? That any one who supports Obama is "unwashed"? The more comments I read, the more taken aback. What happened to actual conservatism? Did you all catch the McCain bug where if you disagree with someone you vilify them? Anyone care to come out of the woodwork and speak realistically?

"Scarred your what?" Scarred my psyche and made me the twisted, tortured soul I am today.
Probably got you too. You don't have a fetish for collecting frogs, do you? It's probably way too late.

I can trace my fron collection directly back to Froggie! I have no idea how many I have, now. But even a long time ago...it was...”too late.”
Like Ethel in the tamaters....

"If you're seeing something near it, it is either background stars or an artifact inside the telescope."Probably the latter, or even just dirt. People keep touching the lenses. But by 2012 I ought to have a better telescope.
"planning to put an asteroid something less than two miles in diameter in orbit around Venus."
You'll probably mess up whatever the equivalent of tides are on Venus. Like if you put two moons in orbit around Earth.

"You'll probably mess up whatever the equivalent of tides are on Venus." Probably not. The equivalent of tides on Venus would be a slight surge in the carbon dioxide "ocean" of Venus below the 28 kilometer level. That's an "ocean" that would cover the mountains of Earth easily, but being just a bit more fluid, just might respond somewhat to a moon. However, our "moon" will be a minimal influence on it, being more than a thousand times smaller than Earth's moon.
"Like if you put two moons in orbit around Earth."
Earth tides do get messed up a little, due to the influence not of a second moon, but of the Sun. At certain times of the year, the Sun's influence added to the moon's influence causes higher than normal tides, or tends to cancel the effects also. Look up "spring" and "neap" tides.
Our purpose in positioning this artificial moon will be to let it serve as an anchor point for a very long skyhook into the Venusian atmosphere. Just as we on Earth have difficulty getting out of our gravity well, colonists in floating cities in the atmosphere of Venus will also want to ride the elevator up.

Good night. Is it night on Venus? Well, the catz think it’s bedtime, anyway.

Venus has days and nights just as we do.
Except the day is longer than the year. No wonder people are up in the air about it.

Good morning, earthling. Is it day or night on Venus? It’s light here, for a change.
Pat has sionnsar’s cough - he finally went to sleep after I covered him with Vick’s Vapo-Rub, which was invented here in North Carolina.
