Police drag protesters away from Palin motorcade

* Story Highlights * Eight to 10 protesters dart in front of Palin's car in Grand Junction, Colorado * Officers grab protesters, drag them out of way of oncoming motorcade * Palin's vehicle passes without a problem as other protesters chant from sidewalk * Police prevented injuries since vehicles likely wouldn't have stopped, official says

(CNN) -- Protesters tried to block the motorcade of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in Grand Junction, Colorado, on Monday, but police dragged them out of the way.

The incident -- just feet from the car carrying Palin -- was captured on video by CNN affiliate KKCO-TV.

Eight to 10 protesters broke away from a larger group of demonstrators and darted into the street in front of Palin's car just after the first police motorcycles in her motorcade had passed, said Acting Chief Troy Smith of the Grand Junction Police Department.

Wearing bandanas and with their faces covered, the protesters blocked the path and held up a large banner. Officers stopped their motorcycles, grabbed the protesters and dragged several out of the path of the oncoming motorcade. VideoWatch police and protesters clash »

At least two demonstrators were tackled and forced to the ground before being pulled away. One officer fell backwards into the path of an approaching vehicle but he was able to get out of the way in time.

Palin's vehicle passed without a problem as other protesters chanted on the sidewalk, about a block from a site where Palin had addressed a rally.

Smith said officers saved the protesters from injury because "the motorcade likely would not have stopped" for them. He said "we don't know what their intentions were" in trying to block Palin's motorcade.

Yea, but they’re just responding to all of those Republican protestors busting up Obama rallies, marching in the streets and throwing themselves in front of his motorcades.

Oh, wait...

“Wearing bandanas and with their faces covered...”

I do wonder why they were not shot. This seems a serious lack of security. I’m glad that all they were carrying was a banner.

Interesting. I foresee an ugly visceral response when viewing these nasty ill-mannered children parading about with their potty mouth slogan T-shirts. It would be exceedingly unhealthy for them to expose my elderly mother, wife, or children to such language in public. A lye soap mouthwash would precede a thorough thrashing and stern lecture regarding public comportment. Will someone be so kind as to hold my hat and coat while I do so?

These loathsome scum are not only breaking the law but they are interfering with the security and safety of a VP candidate.

Any terrorist or assassin could learn from this and take advantage of the chaos caused by these lowlifes in the future.

Wish we could break heads and treat these vermin as assailants who need to be locked up, but then of course the Mediascum will turn the whole matter into a propaganda event against the Republicans rather than against the scumbags who are breaking laws and endangering the VP candidate.

None of this would be tolerated for an instant if it were directed against Obamessiah, but then conservative protestors do not behave like leftist scum do.....

If McCain and Palin are elected this will be so common it will not even make the news. The thugs are going to take over our streets no matter who wins.

Perhaps that is the motivation behind domestically deployed military units.
