Were it not for France, you would not be singing “God Bless America”.
You would be singing “God Save the Queen”.
Je parle un peux.
It would be a huge tragedy to lose French as a language and literary tradition. It is possibly the most poetic, musical language on Earth.
But it does tend to be a bit verbose at times, and is not well suited for technical work or engineering.
“Lentemant et haut voix”
“Lentemant et haut voix, si vous plait!”
Gawd!
Forty years later and I still hate that woman!
Let’s not insult the French when she says French is spoken in Haiti. It is most assuredly not. Creole is a really ugly sounding, guttural language, that has none of the charm and elegance of the French language.
You are correct. English is an amazingly precise and robust language, and it has *four times* the vocabulary of French. A great language for every use: engineering, poetry, politics, you name it.
However I believe that English become THE world language not on merit, but simply due to power and demographics. Ever since 1815 (when infant mortality was slashed in Britain) the Anglosphere has ruled the world in one form or another. If you wanted a job in Ancient Rome you learned Latin - now, you learn English.
Mais je n'aime pas l'attitude Francais, especiallement a Quebec.
