What the Cuban Missile Crisis Can Teach Us About Barack Obama (Biden's Crisis Prediction)
Townhall ^ | October 20, 2008 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 10/20/2008 8:13:09 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Joe Biden's warning that Barack Obama's election will precipitate an international crisis included these words:

"It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy."

While Kennedy is fondly remembered today, it should be noted that during his presidency, America came closer than we have ever come to nuclear war.

As Michael Dobbs implies in his new book, "One Minute to Midnight," the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred -- at least partly -- because of Kennedy's previous mishandling of a summit meeting with Khruschev (remember how Obama wants to meet with everyone without pre-conditions?):

"Their single summit meeting -- in Vienna, in June 1961 -- had been a brutal experience for Kennedy. Khruschev had treated him like a little boy, lecturing him on American misdeeds, threatening to take over West Berlin, and boasting about the inevitable triumph of Communism."

... It's not hard to imagine Ahmadenijad schooling Obama like this. Dobbs goes on to write,

"... 'Roughest thing in my life,' Kennedy had told James Reston of The New York Times, after it was all over, 'He just beat the hell out of me.' Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was contemptuous of his boss's performance. 'Khruschev scared the poor little fellow dead,' he told his cronies."

... It's not hard to imagine Joe Biden saying (or at least, thinking) the very same thing of Obama.

Dobbs adds,

"As Kennedy later confessed to Reston, his superpower rival had no doubt concluded that "I'm inexperienced. Probably thinks I'm stupid. Maybe most important, he thinks I have no guts."

...Yes, it's true, foreign leaders pay attention to which leaders they deem to be weak and/or inexperienced. They size-up their adversaries, and determine whether or not they can take the next step. In this instance, Kennedy's perceived weakness and inexperience emboldened Khruschev.

And while Kennedy's inexperience fortunately did not result in a nuclear war, it did lead us to the brink of nuclear war -- a situation which would never have occurred if Eisenhower had been in office -- or if Nixon had succeeded him...

" Within months of our complete withdrawal, Iraq will be toppled and Israel threatened sending oil prices skyrocketing. The economy that appeared to be on the road to recovery will crash even harder because of energy rationing and newly implemented carbon controls. "

And Jimma Carter's fuel rationing, odd / even days ... will look like gushing geysers in comparison..... that will be the final nail in the casket that will sink our economy...... no fuel for transportation,,, for business... and ? maybe, even for our military.

I’m expecting an incompetent Jimmie Carter type administration.

Carteresque domestic and complete foreign capitulation.

Oh, with a little fascist leanings (’fairness doctrine’ in particular)

" IS BIDEN TRYING TO SCARE AMERICAN'S INTO VOTING FOR McCain "
Some talk show host are already saying that.

Some are saying that Biden might be telling us,, in coded words... VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN NOW BEFORE IT'S TO LATE !!

Still regardless of what Joe Biden intent of his words.. he still put the United States in harms way with his statement... and might have embolden our enemies.

I read this as “Biden has absolutely NO confidence in Obama’s ability to project America’s strength to the world”.

It's time for the 527s to make some TV ads really fast like the one Johnson had made in 1964 ( the Nuclear/Daisy / Cold War ad ) .... with .... Can we really trust Obama with our security ? ... then,,, have Biden's own words... with graphics showing us the dangers the US faces,, and at the end... with these words..:

After hearing Biden's own words..... Barack Obama ... can we really trust his judgment, credibility, trustworthiness, and readiness ? to be President of the USA ? is Obama ready ? Can we trust Obama ? ......

Kennedy’s heart was in the right place but the truth is that his foreign policy was not as strong or deft as those of us who were young at the time hoped and believed and his tax policies turned out to be far better than we understood at first.

Obama models himself on the JFK image but it is not at all clear that his heart is in the right place. JFK’s background and the beliefs and associations of his youth and formative years were the opposite of Obama’s.

Some of you just don't seem to grasp reality when it comes to their culture.

Go to any international airport and watch the Mid Easterners exiting the terminals, smoking cigars while their women carry all the luggage.

This is reality that you might not like, but reality just the same.

For the many thin skinned morons out there, that seem to have difficulty handling the truth...This is not how I personally feel about women in a leadership role.

That goes for you to Mr. Silverback as you sit in room #25 like a punished 12 year old, dreaming up childish quips, thinking up names to call others.

(you’re a total double-bacon genius burger.)

That's real slick Silverback. No doubt a hit on your 4th grade playground.

Kennedy had a few useful chips to play in this poker game. He agreed privately to remove the missiles he inserted publicly along the Soviet borders. But lest we forget, John Kennedy was in a very different democrat party, a 'tax cuts increase revenues for the federal coffers' style democrta party. The current democrat party is following the directives of environmental activist maniacs, the ‘America is the world's greatest threat’ crowd, and the ‘we must capitulate and be infinitely tolerant of Islam in order to have friends in the world community’ mob.

You bet..

You're referring to the missiles we had in Turkey, pointed down Moscow's throat.

If I had an RPG pointed at my neighbors backyard, and he brought over and mounted an RPG on my driveway, pointed at my bedroom...I think it would be safe to assume that negotiations would have to include removing both RPGs.

Some of you just don't seem to grasp reality when it comes to their culture.

No, more like you think we are going to defeat them by adapting our culture to theirs. You say we're denying reality, but we know how these guys feel about woman, and it's truly arrogant of you to think that because we disagree with you, we don't.

We know they despise women, but I'm not going to pass up a qualified candidate (who will hurt these guys badly when she gets the chance) just because she was born with two X chromosomes. That's playing their game, not ours. There's not a man we can elect who will make them think twice before attacking us. If you think so, you're the one who has no grasp of their culture. You think they're going to be scared of Joe Biden? Or will they follow Allah's command to kill us no matter who is in the White House?

BTW, "double-bacon genius burger" didn't come from a 4th grade playground. It was coined by Homer Simpson to describe himself. So yes, it's quite appropriate for someone who thinks we should pass up a smart, principled conservative woman because some mulllah somewhere would rather that the dhimmi in the Oval Office have a penis.

And Homer, like you, is helping out Obama this year.

I should have figured. I'll have to get up to speed on the cartoon quips.

No one here suggested or implied that Silverback. Of course you know that.

Don't worry...you seem to already be in close touch with your inner Homer.

No one here suggested or implied that Silverback. Of course you know that.

You did. Here:

Is the author is suggesting someone one heartbeat away from the presidency, who has no combat experience, no military experience, would be a better fit? Kennedy was at least a combat military veteran. Does the author have any idea what Mid Eastern men think of women?

Sorry, but you've suffered a...

I don't??

I never suggested or implied that. Again, I'll repeat...This is how the MidEastern terrorist and fanatical Muslims feel about women. I even told you to go to any international airport, and watch the Mideastern men exit the terminals smoking cigars, while their women carry all the luggage.

My statements above could not possibly be any clearer.

Not my fault you an another individual here can't handle the truth about how muslims and Mideastern types look upon women as weak and not qualified for leadership roles. This is not my position, and you know it.

The best thing McCain is his VP choice. Without her, the man would stand even less of a chance.

But the USA is not a Mideast Muslim country.. well.. at least most of it is... and yes ..... we DO grasp totally how Islamic Muslim men treat women there... why do you think we want to free them and empower those women in those countries ?
I think you under estimate Sarah Palin to much... I believe she will do the right thing when push comes to shove if our country is attacked.... and she is no pushover.

Yes my above statement exposed the author's lack detail and foresight, making his position moot.

The author attempts to smear Kennedy (A combat military veteran) suggesting Kennedy lacked experience, and was perceived by the Soviets as weak. Yet the author omits the fact that Palin, who is one step from the Presidency lacks any direct military experience, and omits the fact that Mulisms, and murdering Mideastern terrorist look upon women and being weak and unworthy of leadership positions.

You can't handle the truth Silverback.

You attack me for stating the truth. This isn't the first time you've done this. lol
