Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich reacted this morning to Colin Powell's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., arguing, "What that just did in one sound bite... is it eliminated the experience argument."
Powell, the former secretary of state, announced his long-awaited endorsement Sunday morning, explaining that he is backing Obama "because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of this campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities – we have to take that into account – as well as his substance – he has both style and substance – he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."
In all-star roundtable edition of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," former presidential adviser David Gergen categorized Powell's announcement as "the most important endorsement of the campaign so far."

Respected Powell once. Not any more. I cannot believe that any military officer could ever endorse Obama. Then I remembered that Powell was a Clinton equal opportunity selectee.

I haven’t been listening to MSM lately (nor reading their sites...with the exception of headlines). Is no one pointing out the obvious...Like Rush has, that Powell endorsed Obama because he’s black?
I don’t believe one can gain experience just by someone else saying that you have it. Either you are experienced or you are not. Obama will not be good for this country.

I didn’t know that Powell had such a powerful voice-—to completely eliminate the experience argument? It does no such thing. It simply reinforces the fact that “the dream” of an African-American (albeit 6%) candidate’s success is more important than the candidate’s qualifications.

Newt, there is one main reason Powell endorsed Obama. Skin color. We are being shown, over and over again this voting season, with blacks, race trumps everything.
