Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich reacted this morning to Colin Powell's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., arguing, "What that just did in one sound bite... is it eliminated the experience argument."

Powell, the former secretary of state, announced his long-awaited endorsement Sunday morning, explaining that he is backing Obama "because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of this campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities – we have to take that into account – as well as his substance – he has both style and substance – he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."

In all-star roundtable edition of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," former presidential adviser David Gergen categorized Powell's announcement as "the most important endorsement of the campaign so far."

Respected Powell once. Not any more. I cannot believe that any military officer could ever endorse Obama. Then I remembered that Powell was a Clinton equal opportunity selectee.

Newt is playing dumb.

Yeah, thats it - the average American WON'T see this as a racial soldiarity thing; no, the first thing they'll think is 'well I guess Obama really DOES have the experience 'cause Colin Powell said so'.

But the master himself- Henry Kissinger- has endorsed McCain.
Why don’t we hear that? Why isn’t Kissinger on Meet the Press next week?

If Gingrich hadn’t screwed the pooch when we turned Congress over to him, America wouldn’t be in this tough spot. I really don’t care what he says or thinks. He’s a jerk.

I agree!
I think it eliminates the experience argument that Sarah is not experienced enough and that race matters!

I haven’t been listening to MSM lately (nor reading their sites...with the exception of headlines). Is no one pointing out the obvious...Like Rush has, that Powell endorsed Obama because he’s black?

I don’t believe one can gain experience just by someone else saying that you have it. Either you are experienced or you are not. Obama will not be good for this country.

Powell can try to put lipstick on a pig...but it’s still a pig.

‘Eliminated Experience Argument’

I thought Biden resolved that issue? Wasn't he good enough?

Newt is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Sometimes he is a conservative and other times he is a flaming RINO.

I didn’t know that Powell had such a powerful voice-—to completely eliminate the experience argument? It does no such thing. It simply reinforces the fact that “the dream” of an African-American (albeit 6%) candidate’s success is more important than the candidate’s qualifications.

Newt thinks he can run for president in 2012, so he wants McCain to lose.

Newt is delusional.

Strike two Newt, and two is all you get in this game, yer out!

Newt with Madame Pelosi on the couch, trying to sell global warming. Strike one.
This garbage fawning over Powell’s endorsement of Obama. Strike two.

Newt is out. He has no credibility with me from this day forward.

Newt, there is one main reason Powell endorsed Obama. Skin color. We are being shown, over and over again this voting season, with blacks, race trumps everything.
