Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich reacted this morning to Colin Powell's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., arguing, "What that just did in one sound bite... is it eliminated the experience argument."
Powell, the former secretary of state, announced his long-awaited endorsement Sunday morning, explaining that he is backing Obama "because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of this campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities we have to take that into account as well as his substance he has both style and substance he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."
In all-star roundtable edition of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," former presidential adviser David Gergen categorized Powell's announcement as "the most important endorsement of the campaign so far."

They have seen what Obama and his leftist friends do to their enemies and they have decided to jump ship since they think he'll win and they want to be on the right side of the fence when the gate slams shut.
ABC said “Gingrich Impressed With Powell Nod”, do any of us truly believe that of Newt? I don't. If there is anyone we should have doubts about it would be the McCain Campaign brain trust. They're the ones who have put us in this come from behind situation.
Stop this destructive behavior, it's getting us nowhere.
I agree with you, but it’s a big shame that Newt played right into the opposition’s propaganda. He should have known better than that.
I think Newt was being a little sarcastic. In other words, it clearly states that this race is about race.
” lefty-nut sites, they were rabid anti-war and saw Powell as an opportunist Since they remember full well Powell was a big supporter of going into Iraq.”
Yep. A warmonger in the eyes of the left.
Oddly, when Colin Powell supported George Bush, nobody thought he was very good at recognising what it took to be a President.
“It may win him the election, but Palin is no more ready to be president than Obama.”
And just what qualifications do you think are needed to be President?
I remember that.
Newt is still in Washington for a reason.
He’s comfortable among the Eastern Elites.
He sold out long ago.
Worth repeating it was so well said.
Newt has been nothing more than an obnoxious blowhard since he quit Congress.
Now the little punk is impressed because a black guy endorsed the black guy?
Gimme a friggin break....
No, it eliminated Colin Powell from ever having ANYTHING to do with the conservative movement. Powell is a liberal. Anyone who uses him is a liberal.
Powell also showed what an intellectual lightweight and hypocrite he is.
So, what was said in the ellipses? What is ABC taking out of context? I don't trust them at all. I am holding my fire until I see the complete quote in context.
“Since they remember full well Powell was a big supporter of going into Iraq.”
Expect Powell to TOTALLY trash Bush this week. Eviscerate him over Iraq. Take the millstone off his neck.
And what were the last several things Powell “endorsed”? He has been shown to be an advocate for exactly the WRONG actions again and again.
Does this sound familiar? Newt sounding a lot like smilin’ Joe:
~~~Joe Biden thanked Colin Powell for endorsing Barack Obama Sunday, saying that with his choice of Obama over John McCain, questions about the Illinois senators ability to be commander-in-chief will be put to rest.~~~
Just what are you smoking tonight?
