McCain Expresses Concern Over Unfettered Fund Raising [Fox interview]
The Wall Street Journal - Washington Wire ^ | 2008-10-19 | Elizabeth Holmes

John McCain suggested Sunday that Barack Obama’s record-breaking fund raising was a gateway to corruption.

During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” the Republican nominee expressed concern over the amount of money his Democratic opponent was raising — and spending. Obama brought in a jaw-dropping $150 million in September, eclipsing his past record of $66 million.

In talking about the news, McCain repeatedly referred to the Watergate scandal that resulted in the impeachment of former President Richard Nixon. McCain pointed to that incident, which included Republicans breaking into the Democratic National Committee offices, as an example of the kind of corruption that comes as the result of unlimited funds. (Shortly after Watergate, the federal government added amendments to the Freedom of Information Act enacting campaign finance laws.)

Hmmm...one would think an enterprising reporter might start to look into Obama’s donors.

I have to compliment the Chinese for hiding their contributions better this time than they did with Clinton and Gore.

I'm voting for Palin but have to include McCain in the deal.

I can vote for Palin-McCain but I can't vote for McCain-Palin. The latter is like going to a nice hotel that is infested by bed bugs.

The crucial difference between Obama and Nixon is that nothing will happen if the Dem’s gain or even hold their own in Congress.

The First Amendment as amended:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances; unless expenditures for exercising said freedom of speech or right to assemble or petition the government exceeds an amount to be determined and set arbitrarily by government officials; any expressions of free speech beyond stated government proscribed limits shall be met with fines, prosecution, jail time, loss of citizenship, loss of first born, burning at the stake, stoning, beheading and perhaps worse (to be determined).

“Is there any hope that McCain’s misplaced idealism about “reaching across the isle” to deceitful leftists will finally be the bubble that bursts in his understanding?”

McCain has spoken many times and in many places about Hussein Obama’s inability to admit that he was wrong about the surge in Iraq; yet McCain cannot admit that he himself was wrong about his “bipartisan” campaign finance reform bill.

McCain simply does not recognize that this sort of “bipartisanship” is nothing but appeasement.

Citing Republican misdeeds from three decades ago seems an odd way of drawing attention to the current corruption of the Obama campaign and its (ACORN) surrogates.

Can't help but wonder if McCain lies awake at night regretting his support for Campaign Finance Reform, given that he was double-crossed by the Democrats on fund-raising and as a result they are eating his lunch.

campaign contributions come down pretty low on my list of expenditures right now

exactly! there is no way that the messiah has raised that kind of money from Americans alone. he is flush with cash because of illegal contributions from muslim and socialist leaning countries. they have so corrupted our political process that we can never again expect an elected candidate who is truly representative of the people of our country. i can’t even begin to express my frustration of knowing that my vote will essentially be canceled out by a fraudulent one. we are no better than a third world dictatorship at this point. you’ll note that the infamous Jimmy Carter hasn’t uettered a word about the acorn scandal. i despise that hypocrite!

Where is Obama getting his funding? Surely not from ohis base, you know the people he wants to spread the wealth to because they don’t have any money.

Now how can a person get $150 million in a month’s time? If this figure is true how and where did it come from?

I doubt any of it came from America. It may have been laundered through America, though.

Obama is a socialist, will raise taxes on small business and the “rich.” McCain wants to cut business taxes, keep taxes low, keep jobs in America, and impose a spending freeze. BTW I think it was you several months back who doubted me on the spending freeze.

If that doesn’t convince you nothing will. How about 2-3 SCOTUS appointments by Obama. McCain said strict adherence to the Constitution and that a Roe supporter would fit that bill! What else can be said! Mail it in, please!!

Nixon resigned. Missed that one.

McCain can’t just condemn Obama. He has to drag Nixon into it. He simply can’t talk bad about “another” democrat without talking bad about the opposition party, the republicans.

If Obama wins, and the Democrats control the House and Senate, America as we know it is over - game, set, match.

Republicans in Congress will be intimidated into silence or inactivity by Obama’s shock troops. The “Fairness Doctrine” will be passed and approved by the Supreme court because Obama will have appointed two new ultra-left liberals to replace two likely to retire soon.

The military will slowly shrivel from lack of funds, illegal immigration will feed voter rolls and greater numbers of Americans will become dependent on government
handouts to survive - thus insuring their vote.

The Democrats will consolidate their gains until their power is unassailable short of war. Socialism will prevail.....

If we are ever to gain our country and freedom back - we must hold the line now by electing McCain/Palin - or, I predict, fight for it in the streets, block by block, at some time in the distant future.

This shatters old fundraising records by so much it’s difficult to fathom it could have been gotten legally. however, there are a lot of entites hostile to a muscular US foreign policy who could pull this type money from underneath their seat cushions. 0 hasn’t released all of his donors lists as McCAin has done, something stinks to high heaven here.

Couldn't Johnny-Boy come up with ONE Democrat example? All this guy does is bash Republicans and boast about "reaching across the aisle" (to advance the liberal agenda). Shut up, John.
