Biden says he would not restrict gun ownership (Liar!)
Nevada Appeal ^ | October 18th, 2008 | Geoff Dornan

Posted on 10/19/2008 8:34:07 AM PDT by rosenfan

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware said Friday that Nevadans shouldn’t listen to claims he and Barack Obama would take away the right to bear arms.

“I get a kick out of, sometimes, the NRA saying we’re going to take your shotguns away,” he said in a telephone interview with the Nevada Appeal. “I’ve got three shotguns, although my son thinks one of them, the over-under, is his.”

“Both of us believe strongly in the Second Amendment,” Biden said. “We do not believe in registration. We do believe in limits on some of the weapons. You can’t have your own flame-thrower or bazooka. And legislation in relation to assault weapons doesn’t affect hunters or sportsmen.

“We are two Democrats who voted against gun control,” he said.

But, Biden said, there is room for common-sense laws relating to such things as carrying concealed weapons.

He can say this because he’ll be in no position to influence anything as VP.

And there my friends is his position. The part about shotguns is a red herring. I don't believe anyone is even trying to regulate shotguns. I want to hear Joe say that about handguns and semis. But he never will, cuz that's what they are after.

“Shotguns” — Biden’s Bill Clinton response ala “what the meaning of is is”. What he’s saying “maybe, just maybe we’ll let you keep a .410 break open shotgun, but you can forget about anything else.”

In other words, if your gun appeared in a 40-year-old copy of Field and Stream; we might let you keep it. But anything that even hints at military-style appearance, we are going to ban. Oh, and that nonsense about being able to carry a gun to protect yourself and your loved ones . . . forget that.

But hey, we support the 2nd amendment — our interpretation of it anyway.

I don't believe anyone is even trying to regulate shotguns.

Some shotguns such as the Street Sweeper and others have already been effectively legislated away.

And legislation in relation to assault weapons doesn’t affect hunters or sportsmen.

Actually, it does. The '94 AWB restricted the magazine capacity of all firearms (many of them sporting rifles/pistols) to 10 rounds.

Any time a politician mentions the word “hunting” when the question is about the 2nd Amendment they are just blowing smoke to disguise their gun control agenda.

The '94 AWB restricted the magazine capacity of all firearms (many of them sporting rifles/pistols) to 10 rounds.

Nitpick: The AWB prohibited new manufacture of magazines in excess of 10 rounds, it did not outlaw using a previously manufactured high-cap magazine in a firearm.

“I’ve got three shotguns,”

Although useful to criminals, governments don’t really mind shotguns as they have no strategic value due to their limited range. Many countries, such as Turkey, permit their citizens to own only shotguns for that reason. This statement seems to substantiate the notion that the Democrats aren’t so concerned about crime control as they are about controlling the populace in general. Thanks Joe for clearing that up.

But, Biden said, there is room for common-sense laws relating to such things as carrying concealed weapons.

Translation: Biden/B-HO think it's "common-sense" to ban the concealed carry of firearms.

In all honesty the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with “hunting”....In all honesty it’s about defending yourself against abuse authority.

Hey Joe. The second amendment isn’t about hunting, or shotguns. It’s about the God Given Right of a free people to retain the means of taking back the government from dictators like you and your fellow socialists. Even a casual review of the writings of the founding fathers bears that out.

You could also buy 30 round mag under the AWB with the same exemption. The AWB was one of the dumbest laws ever put on the books during my life time.
