I have an interesting story to relay that took place earlier this week between my boss (a senior VP in the company I work for) and one of the Obama campaigns' internal pollsters.
Just to note, my boss is a republican and was meeting the Obama rep over lunch for other reasons. Politics obviously came up due to his line of work.
He asked my boss what her political leanings were and they did some chit chat around the issues and the impressions each had on the state of the race. What happened next was more than fascinating and should be a reminder to all of us to buck up and remain strong. All is not lost. In fact, we may be in a much better spot than we think - despite the national polls and what the daily media drumbeat to give up.

Obama will draw the youth vote in a greater percentage than many think. They are totally mesmerized by Obama. I see too many of them and argue with them but nothing gets through. Will they be responsible enough to get to the polls? I think so. We have to keep trying to shake their confidence in the One. I think it should be a priority in the home stretch to reach these kids.
actually, back in Lincoln’s day, Inaugurations took place in March...so that’s four months worth of food for Lincoln, his wife, and family...7 kids?

My wife has never read about politics, although she sometimes listens to Rush. She votes, but doesn’t care much one way or the other.
Yesterday, she called the RNC and asked how she can help.
Just one data point...
She asked multiple choice questions 1-2-3. I didn't agree with any of the answers I had to choose from. When I would answer in my own way she would then select one of her multiple choice answers. By the time we got to her third question I hung up on her,but not before telling her I was a conservative and would vote McCain.
The last two callers never got to ask a question because I terminated the call as soon as I discovered they were pollsters.
To heck with them,they write down what they want you to say .
That's why I pay little attention to polls.
McCain-Palin will win.

You think someone on Red State is lying about having a good friend who had this conversation with an Obama pollster?
Doubt it.
Whether the pollster was being completely honest is another story, but I do not doubt this conversation took place.
SIL said the poll was definitely skewed Obama. They asked if he would be more likely to vote for Obama on certain issues.
It was clear they were trying to find out what Obama has to focus on to win.
This reminds me of their talking about how McCain is “out of touch” with us regular people.
And then there was that little party out in California where Bab’s sang for supper to the tune of $28,000 a ticket. And they sat around with all the multi-millionaire movie stars also chiding McCain for being out of touch while they feasted on their favorite chefs’ offerings.
And exactly who is out of touch?
Our response? Jane and I have quit going to movies. Those people have too much time and too much money and we are not giving them one more dime of our hard earned money. They can get a real job. Then they’ll know how the rest of the world works.

I know the Obama people are nervous, here’s why: I live in what is supposed to be prime obama country - Madison, WI - and it was announced obama will be holding a rally here soon. Hmmm...if things are so solid here, why bother with a rally? The wheels are coming off the bus faster than they can find new ones. His statement yesterday about how dems could derail at any moment has their base coming unglued and begging for an injection of “hope”. The mask is off this inaccessible man of illusions, with his “spread the wealth around” gaffe. One of the few Senators to vote against the bail out packages is the left’s very own Russ Feingold - he knew what way the wind blew and that he’s only re-elected as long as he doesn’t stray from his position favoring fiscal responsibility. Our other pinko Tammie Baldwin hangs on only by the vote of the strong gay support she has here. If the currently strong anti-incumbent tide turns up in the next cycle she is toast.

"Obama Wants to Help College Students; McCain Says Students on Their OwnThe two candidates couldn’t differ more on any hot-button issue you toss in front of them. Their positions on supporting American college students is also quite the contrast, as are their individual college experiences. Obama attended Columbia and Harvard, and only recently paid off his student loan debt; McCain attended the U.S. Naval Academy, which was free.
Amongst a crashing economy where college tuition support is harder to come by, and college tuition is skyrocketing faster than inflation, one candidate is in favor of the government lending support to college students, while the other thinks that you should cram in a night job between an 18-hour class schedule- plus labs and study groups. While they agree that college tuition isn’t affordable to most Americans and that the process to attain that aid is convuluted- the similarities part there.
“McCain’s message when it comes to increased tuition is, ‘You’re on your own,’” says Michael Dannenberg, senior fellow with the New America Foundation and not a member of Obama’s campaign. “Obama’s message to families is, ‘We’ll give you more financial aid to help you with college costs, but your kids are going to have to help others.’”
Obama’s plan is more detailed than McCains, albeit with a larger price tag. His position is that it’s the government’s job to support college students persuing a degree. He’s not giving it away- in exchange for 100 hours of community service each year, the government will offer students a $4,000 tax break. McCain has put focus on making the financial aid system more efficient, but does not intend to increase its breadth. He wants parents to be more informed and says more money can be available if we eliminate wasteful spending.
Regarding Pell Grants, Obama has made a promise to fund them in a way that keeps up with the demands of tuition increases (which the government is currently not able to do). McCain’s camp says they aren’t making any direct promises, but if a need arises and there’s room in the budget, they’ll consider increasing funds. No matter which candidate is in office, to keep up, $6 billion will be needed next year to support demand.
McCain and Obama do not agree on how the $60 billion in student loan money from the government should be managed and distributed either. Obama would like to see the current system of direct government aid and lending through subsidized banks eliminated, and instead have all student loans paid directly by the government. McCain prefers the current system and those who support this idea say the government would have trouble managing it solely on its own. Obama would also like to see the FAFSA eliminated; and just this week Education Secretary Margaret Spellings presented a new form that eliminated 74 of the 100 questions on the current form.
Your vote does count - and if you want either of these or future candidates to hear your needs, casting a vote is one way to ensure you’re heard."
