I have an interesting story to relay that took place earlier this week between my boss (a senior VP in the company I work for) and one of the Obama campaigns' internal pollsters.
Just to note, my boss is a republican and was meeting the Obama rep over lunch for other reasons. Politics obviously came up due to his line of work.
He asked my boss what her political leanings were and they did some chit chat around the issues and the impressions each had on the state of the race. What happened next was more than fascinating and should be a reminder to all of us to buck up and remain strong. All is not lost. In fact, we may be in a much better spot than we think - despite the national polls and what the daily media drumbeat to give up.
He asked my boss what she thought about Sarah Palin. While my boss is a republican she hasn't been nearly as enamored with her as most of our base. She noted concern about Sarah's experience, but said that she is still voting for McCain.
As she was explaining her perspective it dawned on her to ask why he (the Obama internal pollster) was interested in her view of Palin. He replied that Obama's campaign is extremely nervous about the energized republican base and what he called the "unkown factor" regarding Palin's draw as a candidate.
In the polls they're conducting around the country, and my boss wasn't able to relay specific numbers, the Obama campaign is very, very worried about how Palin appears to be energizing whole groups of people who don't typically get energized about politics, precisely because she appeals so strongly to the middle class, as well as women and dissatisfied republicans that stayed home in 2006.
More than that, they don't know how to guage and predict the support of people typically turned off by politics, but that are enamored with her "up from the bootstraps" appeal.

You're far smarter than I am, FRiend... I know the polls are all over the place (many are just plain ridiculous), but I check Real Clear Politics daily... and freak out daily over the +Obama numbers...
Oh, McCain-Palin lawn signs are "disappearing" all over my area within the past week or so. Obama-Biden signs sprouting like weeds everywhere and sit untouched...
Truth is nobody knows what the heck is going on. Obama and Palin are bringing new voters to the booth, that I know for sure. Just don't know how many of each in swing states.
Economy is our enemy as well as the marxists. My advice, the polls are only as good as their models. Gallup, for instance, is using three models. Why? Because like the rest of us they don't have a clue what is gonna happen. Bush lost all the debates and was behind in a lot of polls and won two elections.
As Yogi says it ain't over till it's over and one thing is for sure right now, it ain't over. :-}

Why is this so obvious? After all we are supposed to believe that Obama and Ayres never discussed activism.

I am not on the ground in FL,VA or NC.. or any of the other R states they are saying are going to fall.. but I have to tell you I just don’t see it happening. OH definately ain’t turning, FLA turning I also think is just wishful thinking by the libs.
Honestly I don’t see NC or VA turning either.
However Even if Fauxbama gets all teh western states of CO, NM and NV, but loses PA, he still needs 20 more EC votes to win... and that means if he is able to pick off a VA or a NC (I truly don’t think its going to happen folks) he still loses.
If he drops PA, and ONLY PA... he not only has to take all 3 western states they are claiming he has a shot for, but also must take an OH or a FL to win.. and I just don’t see that folks.
I truly don’t think this election is nearly as tight as the press and pollsters are playing it to be., and not close with McCain winning, not losing guys.

I have 5 close relatives who are Democrats and 2 are voting for McCain. One is a yellow dog democrat who has never voted for a Republican in her life. However, she is FURIOUS that Obama conned his way in by taking over the caucuses. McCain almost lost one of these pro-choice dims with his pro-life stance last night. Howver, Obama’s close ties to muslim foes of Israel will keep that vote for McCain.
