GALLIPOLIS Gallipolis Wal-Mart shoppers were at first surprised and then excited on Sunday to find a national political figure in their midst who was, just as they were, picking up a few things she needed.
Accompanied by her youngest son Trig, security, staffers and a small pool of news media, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin stepped off the Straight Talk Express bus to enter the store around 1:30 p.m., where she purchased a bag of Parents Choice brand disposable diapers and a toy.
But it was also an opportunity for the first-term Alaska governor to meet the public at large and win some votes for the ticket on which shes running with the GOP White House nominee, U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
Palin did not have time to answer questions from the media following her trip through southeastern Ohio, but left some folks exhilirated at meeting her.
It was so exciting, said Pat Miller of Patriot, accompanied by her daughter Amber, a student at South Gallia High School. She seemed to be very sweet, and if she could stop and take the time to buy some diapers for her son, it tells you that for her, family is first.

Rule of thumb: “One handshake = 100 votes.”
What a wonderful song!
She is either as down to earth as I think she is or else she is one hell of an actress. I vote for option number 1. I’d have no problem inviting her over for a BBQ and having her meet my family. I bet she’d be very at ease as opposed to Obama who would probably think of how much more I could afford in taxes.
Yep. The McCain Campaign made a huge mistake locking her up in Philadelphia and New York City after the Republican National Convention. and limiting her only interviews to CBS... Allowing them to splice and dice the interviews to sh*t.
She should have been here in Ohio hanging out with us. :)
This is Palin Country.
I’ll bet she shops at WalMart at home!
That’s pretty cool.
The little guy is a show stopper in his own right. Cute!
You are correct. A picture taken after the convention shows her with Wal-Mart brand baby wipes. A lot of women took note too.
Baby Trig is sooo calm. Its a good thing given all the commotion around. There is video online somewhere and people were screaming like a rock concert and Baby Trig just kept on napping.

I disagree. If Obama wins, Palin will be making a lot of trips to Iowa and New Hampshire in 2011.
I don't think I could stand that.
good. Because if Obama wins, she will be back in 4 years.
Couldn't disagree more. She's not going away, win or lose. She and the likes of Bobby Jindal and some other represent the coming-out of a whole new generation of conservatives. She's got a very bright future ahead nomatter what happens this time around.
... unless she gets put in the reeducation camp with the rest of the Conservatives.
Absolutely. She seems genuine in a way few politicians ever accomplish.
Geez, if Alaskans moved to the East Coast or California, they'd stop acting like inbred anti-social misfits, and learn to be patriotic like Andrew Dice Biden's constituents, and cough up most of their paychecks for Smart Joe and his pals to spend on smart government stuff.
