Liberal blog Daily Kos and Reaserch 2000 issued a new poll showing Lou Barletta leading incumbent Paul Kanjorski by a 43 to 39 margin. Recent internal polls from both camps show them leading.

I think we’ll pick up this race.

As Anne Murray once put it, “We sure could use a little good news today.”

“I thought Obama had HUGE coattails and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre love Obama!”

Lou Barletta is a locally popular opponent of illegal aliens, while Kanjorski is seen as a symbol of what’s wrong with Congress. This race is about personalities, not parties.

There is plenty of good news out there! Mahoney down in Florida likely just took himself from frontrunner to ex-Congressman. The Pennsylvania ties to that race are Mahoney's opponent - Tom Rooney - is from the Rooneys that own the Pittsburgh Steelers.
My post from another thread on PA being within a couple of points:

-In 2004 Kerry won PA by two points while losing the national vote by 2.5 points. (-4.5; i.e., PA is 4.5 points more Dem than the nation)
-In 2000 Gore carried PA by 4 points while carrying the national vote by a half point. (-3.5)
-In 1996 the Impeached Rapist won PA by 9.2% while winning nationally by 8.5 points (-.7)

So if one safely assumes that PA is about 3 points more Dem than the nation as a whole (as measured by national polls), then a two-point Obama lead in PA spells major trouble for Obama nationally. Think this leaked internal poll is bogus? Then why are all four candidates spending so much time in PA? Why are they spending so much money in PA? We can argue about the particular percentage points, but a reasonable, objective person has to conclude that both campaigns view PA as up for grabs.

And since Ohio tends to be more Republican than PA, it's fair to say that Obama's not doing too well in OH. This is so far supported by somewhat tepid turnout and other word coming out of the Buckeye State.

If the Obamessiah loses OH, his path to the Presidency becomes very narrow. If he loses PA, his journey's over.

Yup. Lou is a good guy. I am in FL and I donated a few bucks to him thru Tom Tancredo’s PAC. Lou for President.

If the GOP is smart - they could flip this - get McCain elected and pick up seats in the House and Senate.

It sounds crazy but the Dems are backing an anti-semite marxist illegal alien from Indonesia and a nitwit at the top of the ticket.

I’m nearly convinced McCain/Palin will win. And I think the GOP will surprise some people in the House. I’m much more pessimistic about the Senate.

This would be a great ticket. I love Sarah and Lou. They both have the fire in the belly.
