LAST EVENING, PRIME MINISTER BERLUSCONI SAID ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID ABOUT HIS FRIEND, PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH:
“Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President, for this great and very warm felt welcome. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for your affection, which is certainly something I feel for you and I’m a hundred percent confident that we’ll be friends forever.
America will have a new President and certainly this new President will be up to his task. And I will cooperate with this new President and I’ll do whatever I can to cooperate with him. But I can say that it’s going to be very difficult — (applause) — but I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND SOMEBODY, ANOTHER MAN, WHO IS REALLY — (applause) — and COURAGEOUS LIKE GEORGE BUSH. (Applause.)”

BUSH SIGNS DEFENSE BILL WITH TROOPS’ PAY RAISE
WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday signed legislation allowing $612 billion in defense spending for the 2009 budget year, including a pay raise for troops.
The legislation allows a supplement of nearly $70 billion for U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and requires more information on contractors with projects in Iraq.
It also paves the way for Bush’s plan to build an anti-missile system in Eastern Europe, a proposal strongly opposed by Russia.
For troops, the authorization bill provides for a 3.9 percent pay raise and provides money for family housing, tuition assistance and other programs.
