Because even if the females are directed into non-combat roles, it distracts from the conscription of males. Just as drafting 50 year old males (even though there are plenty of jobs behind the lines they could do) would distract from conscripting able bodied young males.

In addition, drafting women but not putting them in combat would, from a political & judicial standpoint, create the same quagmire that gay civil unions have created. We're told that permitting them will give the homosexuals something they want without giving them the full recognition of marriage. An appropriate “compromise”, right? No, because once civil unions are in place, we're immediately told that they're a form of apartheid and create a two-tier system which can only be alleviated by full-scale same sex “marriage”. The same thing would happen with a draft that sent men into combat and women into support positions.
