Conservative-friendly media better get ready. Should Barack Obama win the presidency and the Democrats control Congress, as now seems likely, they will launch a full-scale war to drive critics especially on political talk radio right out of legitimate public debate.
Signs of what the new environment will be like for the right are already evident:
When the National Rifle Association recently released television and radio ads in Pennsylvania targeting Obama's history of anti-gun votes, the Obama campaign's general counsel fired off bullying letters to stations that ran the spots, implying that they may have violated public-interest obligations.
When the 527 group, the American Issues Project, came out with a commercial linking Obama to former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, the campaign (unsuccessfully) complained to the Department of Justice that AIP had broken campaign finance laws, and managed to spook some stations away from the ad.
When two different conservative writers looking into Obama's background appeared on Chicago's WGN-AM Radio, the campaign's "action wire" energized its activists to bombard the station with rage-filled phone calls and e-mails, making the program more difficult to conduct.
(The show, hosted by the eminently reasonable Milt Rosenberg, had on both occasions invited the Obama campaign to send a representative to respond; the campaign preferred to answer with digital brownshirts.)
These crude efforts are only a start.

Oh my, george...I love it! Thanks.

Pass a vague “hate crime and speech” law, then pound any ISP who allows hateful speech.
Demand the immediate shutdown of any site that allows hate speech under the above law, erase the site from the DNS servers by court order until a trial or plea bargain can be arranged.
Pass “no net anonymity” laws, so when you post “Barack Hussain Obama is a murtad fitri”, his supporters will see your real name, and where you live.
Broaden child porn laws to make it easier for police to get a search warrant for your home, computer, digital storage media, and analog storage media, and allow your ISP or neighbor to report “Suspicious Internet Activity”, this goes along with the one above in case chanting crowds outside your house don't shut you up properly.
Change laws that only apply to broadcasters to apply to the net (which currently falls under telecomm laws) authorizing FCC to take appropriate action in regards to “news aggregator” sites or other commercial “content” sites, to assure “fairness” and licensing.
I think that's a good start. This would take one or two omnibus crime bills, the right guy in FCC, and a mainstream media bleeding money and viewers to accomplish.
I’ve a few of those, untraecables.
Not just a possibility - you can take it to your local gov't owned bank!
Guess them taking our computers wasn’t so far off... So what happens, we just make everything more mobile and untraceable?
You are right. And here’s this from the article (with more detail at the actual site):
“Obama, like congressional Democrats, also wants to regulate the Internet, the only other medium in which the right does well, via its influential bloggers.
The means here: something called “network neutrality.” Neutrality, if enacted, would give government overseers at the FCC the power to ensure that Internet providers treated equally all the information bits surging across the Web’s “pipes” its cables, fiber optics, phone lines and wireless connections.
This measure makes zero economic sense.”
” Agreed. We need to start getting ready to fight a second Civil War now! “
I’m in Japan , but have some dough stashed away for a flight to the USA when needed .
Good night, I grow weary of my fellow conservatives willingness to whine and let them destroy this great country and its freedoms...purchased with blood. Not everything can be won in the vaunted "marketplace of ideas". Was King George persuaded by rhetoric? There may come a time where posting on FR will not be enough. And NO this is not radical hyperbole unless you call what the Founders did radical hyperbole. And if you do, there is indeed no hope.
You’ll still have a computer, you just will be watched and monitored if you try anything dangerous like saying that under Shari’a law, the son of a Muslim is a Muslim, and a Muslim who gives up this birthright is a murtad fatri. Or give .308 loading advice.
I’d look into steganography, crypto, and the older web nets like IRC, and usenet.
Get a dialup modem, we can set up BBS nets. Might not be a bad idea to see how they worked...
The Dutch want to sell Aruba. Somebody might want to check if it's still for sale. Would need a private army though with Hugo within sight on a clear day.
Ha ha ha... “I can see Venezuela from my house!”
No one is whining here. I simply like to take a realistic look at things so that effective means can be discussed regarding how to overcome such obstacles. Have a peaceful rest. It’s not at the point of armed combat yet. ;-/
Dial-Up. We’ll be back to crawling, but better than nothing. Better start soon. What is the possibility of Forum owners having to give up lists of posters? Seriously.
Someone I know is concerned about getting his/her name off of church membership roster, too.
It was nice talking to you all over the years.
“Get a dialup modem, we can set up BBS nets. Might not be a bad idea to see how they worked...”
What is a BBS net?
Why would someone want his name off of a church roster?
“Good night, I grow weary of my fellow conservatives willingness to whine and let them destroy this great country”
Some of this chatter is useful when trying to see who your allies are, don’t despair.
I noticed that not all is gloom on that thread, some people are making plans (even if buying Aruba is a little impractical).
The left will fade in sunshine and they will run from blood quickly.
Preparation is necessary and it not whining to do so. Things are first put in place for safety’s sake, then do what is needful.
Well, membership list. Guess he thinks “THEY” will take the lists and go to people’s homes or will destroy their lives.
Then he decided it wouldn’t matter, ‘cause they’d just go to the churches on the day of worship.
