A town where voting for Barack Obama is an offence against God (barf alert)

Ann Conway, an engaging 38-year-old mother of six, including triplets, sits at the dining-room table of her mother, Anne Ruddy. They live across the street from one another on a leafy hill overlooking the city of Scranton.
It is the Irish Roman Catholic home in which Ms. Conway was raised to be a true daughter of the Church. It was the home, too, of fiercely loyal Democrats, like most Catholic homes in the region. But things are changing and this is in evidence on this rainy autumn night.
The two women talk about the race between John McCain and Barack Obama, and how the issue of abortion is playing into it. Both look strained when they discuss how they might vote. The issue runs so deep Ms. Conway believes voting for a pro-abortion candidate like Mr. Obama -- something she might reluctantly do because she wants to end the war in Iraq -- is likely an offence against God.
If I do end up voting for Obama, then Ill go to confession after and tell the priest my sin, she said.
(snip)
As for the Bishops letter and the influence of the Church in this election year, she considers it best to just ignore it.
Its Catholic guilt conscience. And Catholic guilt conscience is a terrible thing.

Ms. Conway, got some news for you...unless you genuinely regret your act (i.e., contrition), you can go to confession all you like...it won't do you a danged bit of good.

Voting for abortion is against God. Babies are not a punishment, they are a gift..

something she might reluctantly do because she wants to end the war in Iraq So I guess this woman would put a pillow over her kid's face because she wanted to end his sore throat?

When do we see the article about the black churches where it might as well be a sin to vote other than Obama?

The issue runs so deep Ms. Conway believes voting for a pro-abortion candidate like Mr. Obama -- something she might reluctantly do because she wants to end the war in Iraq -- Oh, for crying out loud...pay attention, Mrs. Conway! The war is almost ended anyway - victoriously as opposed to surrendering disgracefully as the Democrats would have done. Turn off American Idol or Oprah and do some thinking once in a while. What - yuo want to get that clueless thug in so he can surrender before our troops wrap it up?? Good grief.
You'd better hope you can continue to go to confession if That One gets into office.

Will greed and avarice take our nation to glory? Or will it take our nation to One World Government, reparations, UN "back dues," increased "contributions" to the IRS?
To me, it is a no brainer.

Wake-up Mrs.Conway,
America’s daily abortion tally surpasses her overall death toll in Iraq.
Can someont do the calculation on how many children have been aborted since the start of the Iraq war?
She needs to place value on every Soldier’s life because they were not in vain.
She can not say the same of the millions of lives that were never given a chance.

You both are missing the point. No ma'am... I don't think I am missing the point. (In all due respect.) As a Catholic I hear too often from others that the Catholic church lays on its faithful, guilt. The statement couldn't be further from the truth.
We are reminded by our church that truth matters. Voting for someone who encourages abortion is an act against what we are called to defend as Catholics and as Christians. We do the will of God, not our will.
The Bishops are trying to remind the faithful that our duty first is to the teachings of God. When Catholics, or others, oppose this they are not only in violation of the church doctrine, but also the sanctity of life.
Hope that helps.
God Bless.

I can assure you that voting for BO is an offense against God per se, regardless of the town.

You had better not ignore it unless you want to end up in hell. Even going to Confession doesn’t work when a person refuses to repent and change their ways. And that sounds like it describes this woman to a ‘T’.

Notes:
-
Previous #23 has been removed. Bishop Joseph Gossman of Raleigh, NC is actually the bishop emeritus, and the new bishop, Michael Burbidge has not, to my knowledge, made a personal statement.
-
Previous #16 has also been removed, it was an erroneous duplication of current #13.
-
#26 was added September 10th, although he published his column September 6th
