After taking criticism for standing by for days while his supporters grew increasingly unhinged and hysterical, John McCain did the right thing today, telling his supporters that there's no need to be "scared" of a president Obama and calling on them to be "respectful" towards him.
We have two videos for you from the same event. Here's vid of McCain saying that you needn't fear Obama: "He is a decent person, and a person that you do not have be scared as President of the United States"...

The Republican party ran John C. Fremont as it’s first Presidential candidate. In my humble opinion, John S. McCain is their last Presidential candidate. I didn’t leave the Republican party, they left me.
Ah, but wait! The fact that he’s saying “you don’t have to be scared” . . . that plants the thought. It’s like saying, “Don’t think about cats for the next 30 seconds.” Next he needs to say, “No, no, no, my opponent is really a U.S. citizen. And he’s not a Marxist. Let’s be respectful. And don’t bring up that Odinga fellow. Play nice.”
There goes McCain, playing the nitwit card.
Go to his website & fill out the 'Contact Us' to give them a wake-up call.
They need to know how stupid they look to us!!!
There is nothing honorable or decent about Obama...and McCain knows it.
It doesn’t even make sense to put out ACORN and Ayers ads, but turn around and call Obama decent. Would a decent person befriend a terrorist or fraudsters? Hell no.
*He’s 50% white and 47% MUSLIM.*
It is to bad some on FR would rather have Obama for Comander in Chief to finish us off
I will never be respectful to BHObama. The thought of him as President of these United States scares the crap out of me. He has shown his disdain for this country in more ways than one and I will never respect him, ever. He symbolizes everything wrong with this country now and he will change this country in unimaginable ways if he gets the chance.
I took early retirement from the Army rather than serve any longer under the Commander in Chief then, Bill Clinton, because I didn’t respect him, even though we’re supposed to respect the position, not the man. With him in the position it was impossible for me to do.
John, letting the enemy media lead you around by the nose is not only unbecoming; it’s also poor tactics.
“Stockholm syndrome, perhaps?”
Perhaps. I suspect elitist courtesy. The Presidential nominees think that they are a breed apart from the rest of us, and superior.
The only one in that rotten group of candidates who merits my respect is Sarah Palin. But I don’t think the USA can survive 4 years of Obama without permanent irreversible damage to our institutions. That’s why I am going to hold my nose and pull the lever for feckless John McCain and his highly esteemed running mate.
While I'm saying he is associated with unrepentant communist revolutionary terrorists and NOT in any way a “decent” guy.... I'm also saying ‘don't be SCARED’ of an 0bama presidency. Because an 0bama Presidency isn't SCARY! is it?
McCain is trying once again to be “above the fray” and that is good for attracting the mushy middle, especially while planting the idea that an 0bama Presidency might be SCARY; meanwhile his adds will HAMMER 0bama, the 527’s will HAMMER 0bama, and Gov. Sarah Palin will HAMMER 0bama.
This is to defang the “Palin and McCain are inciting violence among their supporters” that the media was prepared to run with.
I know some FReepers would prefer he be out there inciting us to violence; or at least not backpedaling on the character issue, but he is still trying to attract the mushy middle (where elections are won boys and girls) while Palin shores up the base (that never liked McCain to begin with and never will like him other than that he gave the nod to Palin).
And Bush will be a conservative in his second term.
like we haven’t seen this side of McCain before. This campaign is bigger than these occasional blurts. To the contrary of the responses here, I didn’t think we needed advise on courage and respect.
I'll leave it at...I pray for a patriot in this dark hour...
That’s it! I’m done. I’m not going to vote for a damn pussy who won’t stand up to the truth. McCain, you’ve just lost another vote!
I have never feared a man as much as I do Obama and the threat he poses to our Republic, our freedom and our liberty.
McCain is insane. Why speak kindly of your enemy? Take the fight to your enemy and destroy him!!
