Secret Service visits Lufkin woman after 'death threat' allegation from an Obama campaign volunteer

A Lufkin woman received a surprise visit from the Secret Service last week because of a "death threat" comment she reportedly made about Sen. Barack Obama to a campaign volunteer asking for her support of the presidential candidate.
Two federal agents arrived at Jessica Hughes' home Thursday to ask her if she said, "I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor."

Hughes said her words were deliberately twisted by a volunteer who was apparently unhappy Hughes was rude during a phone conversation the two had. The Lufkin mother, a Republican, said she received a call on her cell phone Wednesday from a woman with the Obama Volunteers of Texarkana.
"She asked if I was an Obama supporter, to which I replied, 'No, I don't support him. Your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time.' (And then) I hung up."
(Hughes is referring to a "born alive" Illinois bill that did not pass in the Illinois state Senate in 2005 and had previously been opposed by Obama because he said it undermined Roe v. Wade, according to FactCheck.org, a non-partisan organization. A federal version of the bill, which Obama said he would have supported, passed by unanimous consent and was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2002.)
Obama Campaign Communications for Texas director Josh Taylor declined to comment Monday, refusing to answer any questions and referring the matter to the Secret Service, which he said is conducting an investigation. A message left with a Secret Service agent in Houston was not immediately returned.
Hughes said she was surprised to see two Secret Service agents at her door, and upset to learn that the conversation she had with the volunteer apparently had not been recorded.
"I find it hard to believe that (campaign volunteers) don't tape these calls. They call people unsolicited and they aren't monitoring the calls or recording them? I think that is absolutely ridiculous," she said.
"I mean, how often must this happen — that someone is rude to a volunteer that they don't want to talk to?"
Hughes said she wants to file a countercomplaint against the volunteer.
"She has made a charge that will follow me the rest of my life," she said.
"I find that repugnant and violating — that some person got her undies in a bundle because she didn't like what I had to say."
I believe it’s the same Anna Scott, the person over the Texas Campaign was interestingly enough ‘replaced’ as of Monday. Hmmmm....
I did call the ACLJ, they were very high on my priority list but the gentleman I spoke to sent me to call my Atty General and they said it’s out of their jurisdiction. I want this woman identified, charged, and my record purged. My husband and I will both be willing to take polygraphs whatever it takes but this needs to be dealt with.
I also gave the SS the benefit of the doubt at first, however:
They questioned me about my thoughts despite the fact that I had three witnesses, my husband and two sons who heard the call.
They never interviewed this girl first to see if she was credible. They were at my door straight from Houston without ever going to her just 22 hrs after the call.
Either they recklessly interrogated me and used veiled threats based on a very shaky story from someone they never personally saw or they accepted the word of someone with far more pull in the Obama Campaign. I tend to think it was the latter especially in light of ‘Anna’s hasty transfer.
I believe that if a campaign on either side is going to call people unsolicited and reserve the right to bring gov’t force to bear against a citizen as a result of those calls they should be recorded.
Thank you all very much for your prayers and support. This is getting a bit scary to be honest. It is very stressful and tonight while my husband and I were out at the movies (everyone must see Fireproof it was great) my father in law answered a call on our unpublished home phone. The caller had seen our story and was calling to help. Later on he called back and gave us some good advice, but he had our address and everything which was very disconcerting. The paper online here has a few accusations of racism and we count ourselves blessed that it was a friendly sort who found us not some nutcase. We immediately had our number changed.
Reading these posts has lifted our spirits considerably. My husband is here reading them with me. He spent several years as a tanker in Korea/FT Hood, and then in the Air Force as well, where he was entrusted with a very high Security Clearance. We are not accustomed to seeing authority figures as potential enemies. The whole experience is positively surreal. The Hannity radio show was cut short today, but his aide said she wanted to call back tomorrow and promised to get me on the air. She said she got a call from CA asking her about the story so it is certainly gaining ground.
I want again to just thank you all this board has been a Godsend.

Plus most want NOTHING to do with actions such as this and they could end up saying “enough” and the whistles blown.

I hate to sound paranoid, but I am VERY sure by virtue of a LOT of little things that Obama will NOT “go quietly” even if he loses this election by a moderate margin. If it’s not a complete and total landslide victory for McCain I fully expect riots, and not just “race riots” like we’ve seen in the country before.
They’re grooming these young kids (and idealistic college “kids”) to believe that if Obama doesn’t win it means Republicans committed voter fraud (again ala Gore). I could go on and on listing all the various reasons I believe this, but I think we’re on the same page, and I think a lot of people here are equally as concerned as you and I.
Just remember — It’s not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you. And, when it comes to Communists like Obama and his groups they really ARE out to get us (the U.S. altogether) and it’s not like they haven’t been saying it for YEARS!
If anything happens, then they will be supress very fast by both the NG and police military like swat teams whom the rioters would be no match for.
Well you are not the only one, James Carvelle said the same thing in the last day or two.
I would not want to be those who do the rioting because they will be taken down by those who are armed to the teeth.
I recently listened to a speech of his that he gave in Reno. To ME it sounded an awful lot like a DRAFT - mandatory service in either the peace corps or the military.
Interesting that Carville would mention it being a Dem and all, but it’s not like Hillary’s folks are not on “our side” in all of this. Hillary was the first major casualty in the Communist takeover of the Dem party.
One has to remember that Obama IS very much a part of the “aging Communist Revolutionary set”. They may not do the actual footwork, but you can be sure they are behind it ALL. That’s what probably frightens me the most... There are a lot of otherwise good people that will get hurt by their own idealistic notions and are not educated enough to understand what they are being used for. Young people who honestly don’t know much better, and have been corrupted and brainwashed into thinking THEY are the ones in the “right”, and they are the “True Patriots”. The only thing that keeps me sane right now is knowing that when the crap really hits a lot of people (especially the young ones) will lose their will to fight, and I know the REAL patriots - the ones on the side of FREEDOM will NEVER lose their will. :)

That was my very first thought while reading through the article. The only way they could prevent you from using it would be by force and then you’d really have a case against them.
I believe it is legal to record if they know you are doing it.
If this happened to me I think I would dial 911 and ask my local police department to send someone over immediately AND use my cell phone to snap a couple of pictures of them.
Again, what are they going to do? If they try to stop you they are using undue force for innocent actions - to my way of thinking anyway.

Thanks for this added facts. How do you know that the SS never interviewed the Obamitch who tattled on you? I don't know what the SS's SOP is in circumstances like this, but in order to quickly investigate a perceived "threat" is it possible that one team of SS agents was interviewing you while another team was interviewing the person who filed the complaint?
BTW, I received an Obama call a couple of Saturdays ago. I kept the Obamitch on line for about a half hour because, like the voter registration people who work for ACORN, I assumed she was probably getting paid per phone call. I kept saying things like "What specifically are you trying to "ax me" and "where did you learn to speak English?" And when she axed me a question, I would respond by axing her a question. She finally hung up.

The truth is that the Clinton supporters were driven out for all purposes from the Dems and I sense Carville very nervous himself of seeing the commies take over the Dems. The truth is that this is their last stand, they know that if their man loses and violence does break out, it WILL be quickly suppressed by both the police swat teams who are more or less are close to being like military and the NG which have stepped up to the plate these last couple of years as freedom fighters and will not put up with, please forgive my American English, this CRAP from any youthful troublemakers and their aging commie revoluntionary bosses. But in the end, the real patriots, folks like you and I, will prevail, God willing.
