This whole idea sounds silly. If McCain-Palin doesn't win, she's going to be damaged going into 2012. She's going to be the VP candidate who couldn't deliver the demographic groups that she needed to deliver. If she goes back to Alaska next year and serves six more years as a very competent governor, she'll be a viable candidate in 2016, but if she loses this year, she won't be a strong candidate for 2012.

Whether Mitt Romney is in a good position to run in 2012 remains to be seen. If McCain-Palin doesn't win, many of us will be further persuaded that Mitt Romney was the better candidate. Certainly he would be stronger right now with the economy in turmoil. However, the country will be a different place in four years. Mitt Romney could be a favorite in four years, but the notion that he is setting up a conflict with Sarah Palin is silly.

You are right. It is completely silly. Ridiculous, in fact. Romney has campaigned far and wide for this ticket.

On the other hand, nobody can deny that Mitt would have given Obama a much more spirited debate on the economy than did McCain this time around. Romney/Palin would have been my preference. We shall see what happens in the future though.

I am still praying McCain can win this thing in a month. I am hoping the Bradley effect is in play....
