DOD did not report it given the fact that they wanted to negotiate quietly without making it a major international incident, which could have forced the Iranians to take a more combative and hostile stance. I am sure the pilot reported that he was being forced down into Iran so DOD was aware of the condition of the plane and the passenges.

How irresponsible of Fox News....during the report there was a banner on top that said “US Warplane Shot Down in Iran”.......and we wonder how things get all screwed up..jeesh
If it’s owned by the military, I guess you could technically call it a “warplane,” if you squinted.
What bugs me about this is that a Dassault Falcon is almost certainly not going to be “flying at low level to avoid radar.” It’s a business jet. It runs around up there above 30,000 feet with the airliners.
If this was a case of accidentally crossing the border, some poor pilot or navigator is about to have to find a new career.

Iranian Fighters Force US Jet to Land
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Air Force fighters forced a US Falcon to land after the jet violated Iran's airspace.
FNA dispatches said that the US Falcon jet had entered Iranian airspace from Turkey despite repeated warnings by the Islamic Republic Air Force.
The US jet was flying at low altitude in a bid to remain unnoticed by Iranian Radars, but it was made to touch down at an Iranian air port escorted by Air Force fighter jets.
The flying crew and passengers, including five US militaries and three civilians, were released after daylong interrogations revealed that they had violated Iranian airspace unintentionally as they were en route to Afghanistan.
The US Falcon and all those aboard left Iran for Afghanistan after receiving takeoff permission from Iranian authorities.

in some peoples eyes any plane which contains a military peron(s) is a warplane. Just as my wife thinks that if she sees a cat in the barn it must be a “barn cat” Sheesh, city kids.

now if one of our high ranking military people was sent on a mission to establish contacts in Iran, and wasn’t supposed to go there, wouldn’t this serve his purpose well?
