If I could make a living begging on the streets of Rome, I would go to Italy for a year and learn real doctrine.

I know what you mean! Sometimes the situation makes you feel just plain desperate. If you're in a bad diocese it can be very hard to find any orthodox teaching. My diocese (St. Augustine, Florida) ranges from outright bad to just sloppy. Fortunately I have found a Polish Carmelite monastery with no connection with the diocese that I can go to if I have time to make the drive.

What diocese do you live in?

Corpus Christi, TX. People have given me some places to try and I am still looking. Our Lady of Perpetual Help seemed really good but soo many people. Three huge masses on Sunday morning and packed to the brim! This church is on fire and I liked the Priest and the people but when you are one in seven thousand you can feel lost and alone. They called people out for RCIA but I didn’t go. It looked like mostly teenagers. I am going to keep looking. Possibly going out to Padre Island for a maybe smaller group. I really don’t want to be exposed to any more rubbish from the reds, though. I want red-meat doctrine and thats that.
