The conservative stars are in it & as I was on the way to the movie I heard an interview by Kelsey Grammer by Michael Medved. The obvious question from Michael

I agree, but I loved the ACLU part: “They’re not people, they’re the ACLU!”

I agree. It was amusing but overall it seemed to have something missing. The acting was great. Kevin Farley did an amazing job as did Kelsey Grammer.Jon Voight was simply brilliant. The scene with the fake Rosie, the ACLU, The Moovelong.org award show and the Cuba scene in the boat was top notch. If the movie had been able to maintain that level it would have been comedy gold. Too many cursing kids used as filler. I still hope everyone can get out to see it because you will definitely get some laughs.

Our showing was packed here in Chicago’s western suburbs. Of course, Dupage County is one of the most Republican counties in America.

Saw it yesterday; even here in the peoples republic of Massachusetts they showed it and it was well received. The theater felt compelled to run ads for “W” before the movie; people were visibly disturbed.

Mr. sneakers and I saw it last night. Loved it! We had to drive about 40 miles since it wasn’t being shown in our town.
The theater was over half full. Lots of laughter in the first ten minutes then it settled in with lots of yucks in between. The audience started to clap when Michael Malone (Chris Farley) said: “Hollywood?, yeah lets go there - they HATE America!” (paraphrased)
Favorite scenes
On the funny side:
-The “extremist Christians” and
-the aging hippie college profs longing for 1968.
On the serious side:
-The scene with George Washington (Jon Voight) at the church across from ground zero.
-”the ghosts of American Soldiers from present to the past” in the audience.
-the sailors boarding their ship as they prepare to leave. (my son is in the navy - in Japan - and we haven’t seen him in over a year, so I started to tear up at that part!) Loved seeing the US Navy Sailors in their dress whites hugging their families at the dock!

Lots of clapping at the end (and a few “whoops!” or “woooohoooo’s!”, if I remember correctly) lol!

All-in-all, I’d say its a really great movie with a lot of laughs while really making you think!

"It includes swearing and satirical bigotry."

Oh my! Movie critics and TV censors can ignore the most sexually explicit scenes simply thrown about gratuitously without any justification in storyline, plot or character development, and then warn about 'satirical bigotry'?

My husband and I saw it last night too and I completely agree.

Several laugh out loud scenes but for our taste, seeing little children
spout obscene language and use vulgar hand gestures was a bit much.

Disappointing.

We should have gone to Fire Proof.

I’m going to see it on Tuesday.

I’m willingly to bet that movie makes a ton of money at the box office.

I propose that NYC/NJ/CT Freepers meet and see this film in NYC. I hate seeing movies alone....in that bastion of liberalism and corruption that I live in, the Garden State, I can’t find one person who wants to go.

I hadn’t been to a movie theater in 10 years, but I went last night. The place was packed for the early showing.

This film makes Liberals look very foolish and self-centered. I doesn’t pull any punches. There are some really funny segments, but there were some very moving ones as well.

The experience of sitting in a theater with a bunch of people and laughing at the Left while applauding for patriotism was something we haven’t been able to experience in along time.

they had what I consider overly offensive previews for our showing also. Normallly the trailers are in line with the main feature.. These were not - several very sexually oriented (gay) among them

I saw it last night. Good turnout but not packed. I thought it was funny. A couple of scenes flopped but they were more than made up for by the ones that scored. The audience laughed out loud at the really funny scenes, not so much at the ones that fizzled or the ones that were more “insider” humor that not everyone got. Overall a clear thumbs’ up. It’s a satire and not intended to be a work of art, and as a satire it’s pretty brilliant and just seeing liberals look stupid in a movie is enough to make it worth seeing.

An example of one of the scenes that didn’t elicit laughs, probably because many people didn’t get it, was when the terrorists were listing some of the directors of failed anti-American films (such as Brian DiPalma, whose last film went “straight to video”, they said). Much of the audience didn’t get the humor since in real life almost no one saw those movies or even cares who those directors are.

hope you can find a group to go. Why not post on your state board?

or ping here your NY list?

I go to about 1/3 of the movies I see alone. Never bothers me to do so

Well, I hope you are right that it makes a lot of money.
Personally, I think it would have the chance to make MORE money if it had left out, in the words of

nevergore:
...”seeing little children spout obscene language and use vulgar hand gestures was a bit much. Disappointing.”

This could have been left out of the movie. I’m with nevergore, I am very turned off by that type of so-called humor.
Most likely, less money will be made on the movie because there are still parents left who will not take their children to movies where children are speaking obscenities.

Molly,

Although I agree with you with your sentiment regarding using small children for obscene gestures and dialogue, I didn’t state that in my post.

You attributed that statement to me as a quote but it wasn’t mine.....credit needed to go to another poster....
