McCain plans fiercer strategy against Obama
Article Launched: 10/03/2008 07:11:11 PM PDT
WASHINGTON Sen. John McCain and his Republican allies are readying a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama's character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat's judgment, honesty and personal associations, several top Republicans said.
With just a month to go until Election Day, McCain's team has decided that its emphasis on the senator's biography as a war hero, experienced lawmaker and straight-talking maverick is insufficient to close a growing gap with Obama. The Republican's campaign also is eager to move the conversation away from the economy, an issue that strongly favors Obama and has helped him to a lead in many recent polls.
"We're going to get a little tougher," a senior Republican operative said, indicating that a fresh batch of TV ads are coming. "We've got to question this guy's associations. Very soon. There's no question that we have to change the subject here," said the operative, who was not authorized to discuss strategy and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Agreed. I can just barely accept that he might have wanted to mute partisanship while the bill was in process; but having voted for all that pork he has thrown away his trump card, unplayed. He cannot now attack pork barrel politics with any credibility.
And all those electoral maps assume an unprecedented Democrat turn out.
oh I wish
Come on....McCain's doing great. He's within spitting distance of the White House against the odds of two extrordinary forces: The natural political cycle giving Dimms the advantage AND a relentless MSM endorsement of NObama.
Instead of sitting back and telling McCain what he should be doing ... maybe, just maybe, this is OUR time to actually help the McCain/Palin ticket.
Some positive posts would be refreshing.....and a check or two in the mail to the RNC would also help.
Bill Kristol has mentioned this: McCain doesn’t have a grand narrative, and I agree 100%.
That what I told them today when they emailed me for a donation and help.
Oh, gee. Really? Ya sure it’s not too soon, now? And don’t get TOO tough, either. Don’t reveal too much truth about Obama, you might just pull ahead if you do.
Schmidt and McCain had been brilliant right up until the decision to suspend the campaign. Looks like that decision, coupled with McCain's overall weak response on the economy, will probably wind up costing them the election.
I'm still holding out some hope for a turnaround, but we are rapidly running out of time and people's opinions are starting to be cemented.
Rooster Cogburn: “Ned, I mean to kill you in two minutes or take you to Fort Smith to hang at Judge Parker’s convenience. Which’ll it be?”
Lucky Ned Pepper: “I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.”
Cogburn: “Fill your hand, you sonafabitch!”
John McCain could be one helluva Rooster Cogburn.
Do tell. Can you give us a little hint, Mom? ;)
Remember when I said this?
So heres the simple political calculus: If McCain chooses the polar path, creates lots of acrimony, he wins. If he chooses his normal, middle-of-the-road path, he loses.
This article is one indicator of a direction. We shall see...
And Obama’s birth certificate? Isn’t anyone going to bother to ask him, in public, why he refuses to release his official birth records?
What are you hiding, Obama?
Please, tell us, "paudio", how would you change the narrative?
At this stage in the campaign, a drive-by complaint is worthless. A suggestion could be priceless.
About ten million of them watched on CNN at obama's suggestion, expecting to enjoy the spectacle of Biden taking Palin apart at the seams. They were like the picnickers who went out on a pleasant afternoon to watch the Union Army dismantle the rebel rabble at the First Battle of Bull Run.
Turn the pitbull loose on him. After she worked on him a while at least part of his suit would not be empty.
1. Gov. Palin connects with voters. They like her ...A LOT!!
2. There are undecided voters who won't vote for Obama because he's black.
I agree. There is certainly enough footage out there of the hearing in 05, and plenty of records of 03 as well. Just putll out the records and show the clips! McCain has to realize, most of the leveral voters were against the bail out too.
Didn't have much choice, did he. Once you realize that this bill isn't to bail "greedy wall street crooks" that this is NONE of there fault, and this bail out is to bail YOU out, as well as government who is responsible for setting this all in motion as far back as 1987 with the whole "community development initiative" which FORCED banks to lend to more minorities who otherwise couldn't afford housing, cars etc; Then you will realize this bailout is to help cushion the blow of all that excessive, out of control consumerism on borrowed money which is the fault of each and every citizen of this country, and the government which encouraged it, which is coming to a grinding halt.
Who was behind alot of the communinity development initiatives? Why who else but a community organizer named Barack Obama, his pals Ayers and an organization called "Acorn". Not only is this slow but fatal destruction of our banking system their doing, but they have profited handsomely from it over the years, and again, despite all the damage it has caused, have been rewarded again with earmarks in this bill.
Perhaps it is all this that McCain plans to expose, which would make sense since Ayers, The Rev, and many other Marxist minds who Obama worked and associated with are involved.
