Luntz's focus group evenly split between Republicans and Democrats Kerry and Bush supporters. Palin BLEW THIS OUT OF THE PARK!

Just because someone is factually wrong does not mean that they will be ineffective with people who are apolitical. Sarah Palin tapped into the common man tonight which is somethhing that Joe Biden just can’t do

Boy he was laying it on thick trying though. To me he comes across as a slick lawyer. Anyway, what you say is true, and so watching a debate for me is different than it is for the people who count.

Here is an illustration of the media at work: CBS reported an "instant poll" of 500 "uncommitted voters" who allegedly went 2 to 1 for Biden. Of course with Bob Schieffer and Perky Couric as co-spinners, there may be a bit of a selection factor among who are the viewers there...they did mumble that the bulk of the gorup were "leaning toward Obama before the debate!"

Duh! When a DC newby holds her own with a veteran senator and looks real in the process, she wins!

Right now the independents are the most important.

Not only did Palin handle herself VERY well - she is PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL for the future.

Personally I found his attempt at inserting his personal tragedy to be pathetic. It really was not the place to get the boo hoo vote. My dad raised 5 kids alone and you don’t see him seeking sympathy.

The MSM, critics and talking heads, for days had already called the debate for Biden, Palin they said didn’t have the right stuff.

Well, I think they got too far out ahead of reality based on their own dislike of her and it bit them in the ass.

Can we ever believe them again?

Yeah, Luntz is only fooling himself with that line of reasoning. He’s internally inconsistent, too. First he claims they are independents, then he shows two graph lines, one Repub, one Dim.

Which is it, Dr Luntz?

I signed up on Luntz’s website - I received an email requesting info. because they’ll be in KC soon. I filled out the form but doubt he’ll call because he likes to use independents and I’m too far right.

Whoever’s been booking her with Gibson and Couric and power-cramming her head with talking points needs to be fired from McCain’s campaign - they’ve wasted her for the last month. The Palin we saw tonight can help win the election for McCain.

Actually, I think her peformance in those two interviews was a definite benefit. Completely lowered expecations for her going into tonight. Now she's had a chance to recast herself AS herself directly to the American public.

Gibson and Couric look completely feckless as a result. I won't even go into the folks at SNL who were hoping to pull a Chevy Chase/Gerald Ford character assassination job on Palin. Their little skit last weekend looks oh-so-quaint after tonight.

She won because she was so main street American. All of the other candidates, including McCain are guilty of her “finger pointing backward” mentality.

She exuded the spirit of Reagan tonight the spirit that says “We are Americans we can do anything, we can overcome anything”.

It is precisely that attitude that had branded all of our greatest presidents like: Roosevelt on his Pearl Harbor Speech and Reagan’s Shining Light Speech.

She eliminated any doubts about her qualification to become President tonight and I think more than a few wish she was the candidate because she has the fire in her heart.

Well said!

I would like to see her talk about principles from here until election day instead of getting bogged down in policy weeds.

I like her so much when she is on the traditional Reagan principles she obviously embraces. Government is not the answer... government is the problem is the message she could ride to the white house.

On a negative note I was very frustrated on the bailout issue that she did not point out (with the audience tonight) how congress created so much of this economic crisis.

I've heard that Palin is booked to do The View. If they're serious about squandering their best campaign asset that way, there are still people who need to be fired.

Un----real.

I thought Palin did very well and finished stronger than she started. I was blown away by the focus group, they went almost entirely for Palin. I was even more pleased that she did that well against Biden without his making any blatant gaffes like saying Roosevelt went on TV when the stock market crashed. I would say Biden was not great but he did at least as well as I had thought he would and Palin still came off as the clear winner.

Just put this in context.....

Here is a relative political newcomer. Only been on the national stage 5 weeks. Going toe to toe with a guy who has been in the senate 35 years.

Biden knows a ton more details about what McCain has done the last 30 years than Sarah does.

Yet, she absolutely takes him apart. She has learned more in 5 weeks, than Biden in 35 and Obama in 4.

McCain needs to cut her loose Friday and hit all the shows. She is ready.

A poll of the debate by CNN showed Biden winning.....something like 51 to 36%.

46-21 Biden per MSNBC.

What a joke these channels are.

I wonder sometimes if the Couric interviews weren’t just to sucker them in.

She didn’t need to win this debate to win, and on a number of issues she flat out did win. Against a 30 year senator that’s a blowout. I don’t think some people realize that.
